    Hi guys,

I am thinking of ordering Alienware laptop. I just need opinion whether i should order from dell or other websites like xotic pc. I need better ram and stuff like that as Alienware only have simple options. I am in Corsair and kigston rams. What will be better ? Are there any other websites like xotic pc with good reputation for ordering custom alienware.

I would order from Dell and do the up grades your self. The ram and hard drives or ssd are easy to upgrade and much cheaper than getting from any builder. ;)

Agreed. Ordering from Dell will be much easier, and the service will likely be much better. However, if you cannot order from Dell because of your location (or something else), I recommend XoticPC. Just keep in mind: Unless the system is in-stock, ordering through a reseller is like having someone buy a system for you and then having them send it to you. So, this process may take much longer than ordering directly through Alienware/Dell.

Straight from DELL, that will save you a lot of headaches.

Pretty much what is said earlier. The only reason I won't go through xoticpc and the likes is warranty issues.

They buy from dell and upgrade it for you, there have been issues with this mentioned many times here. What if you want to upgrade warranty down the path later ?, your stuck with xoticpc.

Buy from dell, upgrade yourself and keep the original parts aside, anything goes wrong, you revert the laptop back to stock and dell takes care of warranty by sending a guy to your house, rather than you sending laptop back and waiting for it to be fixed.

I would have to say straight from Dell as well....their warranty is just unbeatable. If something fails they have a tech to your door usually within 24 hours , same with parts. The warranty alone is more then worth it IMO.

As others have also suggested skip the upgrades and do it yourself, it is much much cheaper unless your looking at CPU or GPU upgrades.

Just an FYI to all of you who keep mentioning warranty issues: the warranty carries over and is not voided. Therefore, purchasing through XoticPC or other resellers does not prevent you from calling Alienware for support. Obviously any parts they add/customize aren't covered, but that goes for everyone, even if you installed components aftermarket yourself.

It's just like having your friend buy you an Alienware - you give him the money, he orders according to your request, Alienware builds and ships to your friend, custom work is done, if requested, and it finally makes its way to you after testing.

Also, any custom parts are usually covered by the reseller.
