    Hi guys,

I know this question has probably been asked before, many times but, as you know I have a M17x (first gen) she has the 2.8Ghz processor and i was wondering if our AW friends have released the BIOS which allows overclocking like the M17X can, yet?

Oh, I also have an AW Mug... (",)

    no BIOS OC'ing

only way to OC is via setFSB

and you need to open it up and find the PLL

Yeah, that's all I could find already, ho hum...

What i don't understand it that the new M17 has the same or very similar cooling and you can 'turn up' the processor, a la 1730...

I only want to run my processor at 3.4Ghz, which is it's manufacture safe limit for longevity...

Guess i'll have to stick with 2.8...

    OB

    P.S. Thanks though (",)

i used setFSB and runs pretty stable at 3.2GB. I choose the same PLL as ASUS-G1s. It works but I am not sure if this is the correct PLL.
we need someone to open it up and physically locate this mysterious PLL.

So what performance gains have you had?

Also, what did this do to the cooling/heating?

My 3Dmark score went from 12.5K to 14.1K. Vantage GPU score from 8100 to 8500.

Vista index score is now 5.7/5.8/5.9/5.9/5.9

For gaming performance, those games run at 1920x1200@60-70fps are now 80fps, especially FEAR2 and COD4( sometimes it may be still below this number but the difference is noticeable, I may give you a precise measure at a later time). I guess when video cards are not the bottleneck, better cpu gives you more FPS. So if in a game your GPUs are not totally being used then that may indicate CPU is the limit then more CPU power gives you more FPS.

My cpu temperature normally is 40-45, the highest I can get by stressing it in things like vPrime is 75. Before overclocking it is from 30(lowest)-60(highest). Overall I think this is acceptable.

In case anyone is interested, pll for the original M17x (Area-51 M17x) reads as follows:

    ICS
    7333855
    0718
    9LPR363DGLF

Edit: Just checked SetFSB to see if it has the corresponding pll and it does (ICS9LPR363DGLF). As someone mentioned, the Asus G1S pll should work as it is the same as the M17x according to the readme file.
