after reading this and recently posting in it i realised that cos the topic is sooooooooo old it didn't show up in notebook manufacturers>alienware so you guys could read it (near the top)
so ive started a new topic on the same subject.

ive re installed command centre a few times and OSD.
my problem is when cmd ctr is installed and then install OSD i get the volume icon in the middle of the desktop. But when i restart the laptop is gone so i have to reinstall OSD.
i have to do this every time i restart and its pissing me off.
any fixes guys ?? and ive tried oldest and newest drivers.
cheers guys

Might be a conflict since your install order is not exactly perfect.
-
That't the install order for the Area-51 m17x not the All Powerful M17x which is what the OP is showing in his sig.
-
If you check the order for all the notebooks (the new ones at least) i doubt the order will be much different for the M17x. It was to show where the osd is on the list and where the command center is.

so is there anyway to sort this issue ??
cheers -
I had a similar issue with the fading icons not showing up (volume, etc). For me the problem was that OSD_Main.exe was not loading. That is the program that controls those icons. Check for yourself on the Task Manager. If it is not there, then we had the same issue.
The rep said I should try reinstalling in a specific order but since that was the only "issue" I ever had I found a little work around since I just didn't want to bother with it.
Go to Task Scheduler and create a task at login or startup for OSD_Main.exe with highest priorities. End of story. At least for me. -
ill give that a go.
thank you -
If you notice, when you double click on OSD_Main.exe the icons show up. For some reason it doesn't run at startup like it should.
Schedule the task at log on (I just checked mine), so it will be there when you come back from sleep or hibernate. -
OK after understanding this method all ive done is make shortcut of OSD_MAIN.exe from program files and put it into
start menu>programs>start up and put shortcut file in that folder.
works a treat
cheers
