I am wondering if anyone has ever outputted to a plasma screen via HDMI. My concerns are plasma burn in for like the taskbar and such. What is the longest you think I should keep the computer with the taskbar visible up for? I know when I'm watching full screen blu ray rips that won't matter but say if I'm browsing the web, how many hours can I safely have that taskbar on the bottom not moving. The plasma is a brand new 2009 G10 series panasonic so it has all the latest anti burn in technology. Any ideas anyone how long that taskbar can safely sit there?

It would take days for actual burn in to occur. Screen retention on the other hand maybe 30 minutes. That's when it looks like it's burned in but goes away after a couple days. I would only use it for movies but if you do keep the contrast low.
-
It has this feature where it scrolls a white bar across the screen to remove image retention. I just don't want to ruin this beauty. So browsing the web for say 3 hours will do no lasting damage to the newer 2009 plasma panels correct? -
No guarantees. High contrast and a crappy plasma may have issues.
-
You should be fine. Modern plasma screens are much more resistant to burn-in and image retention. Just don't leave it on for hours.

I have a Panasonic TC-P50G10. It is one of their top plasmas and the quality is amazing. Just got it today as a gift from my girl. It's supposed to be one of the best plasmas on the market. 600 Hz refresh and 2,000,000:1 "infinite black" contrast level.

Sounds like she's a keeper. (the girl not the TV)

Yeah im in love with this tv (and her too). Independent women with their own money rock. Could never be with a needy girl.

Glad the cave you've been living in finally got the internet. Now you'll be able to Google stuff.
-
Man, I just use a projector for 12' of big screen goodness.
Costs a lot less than a plasma TV. -

Guess I just like the experience of the theater at home.

Hey Rob do those goggles in your avatar work like Nvidia's?

That's pretty funny.
He could be on to something though. -
off topic:
they have in the works xoskels for the warfighter.
ive seen DoD vids on this...kewl stuff, but a bit cumbersome...lol
and this thread has gone way off topic...last post for me here... -
More like he could be on something. -

wow this is some good information on if using a plasma as a comp screen is safe. yeah....
-
last...
i am pretty sure the question was answered on the first few pages.
however, i will say again: with current plasmas, the burn has been improved.
you can use the display to your liking and get no shadow effects or burn in...
they have vastly improved over the past years with this and is less of a concern now then it used to be. -
If it were my plasma set, I'd be asking tech support for the manufacturer of the plasma TV. They may have specific information for your model.
-
oh i know it was answered. I figured I would be safe if I chose to browse the web for a couple hours after watchin an HD rip or something. Even if I do get some image retention there is a feature that erases it. Just seeing what the peoples experience over here was. It's a brand new high end panasonic so I'm sure I would have to abuse it pretty hard to get perm burn in.
