    Hi,

yesterday my computer started to downclock while playing WoW. This doesn't happen often (like once in a couple of hours). I have downclocking on other games, such as GTA IV as well. I checked my GPU temps and it gets as high as 107 degrees! Never had this issue before. I use 180 drivers, x36 bios. Stealth mode is off, I'm on high performance. Any ideas?

Dust, thermal paste needs renewing, heatsink needs cleaning.

    (fans are working right?)

try cleaning it first to see what happens.

i dont think gpu would downclock on GTA IV. i think you are just getting bad performance since GTA IV is one of the worse console ports ever made for the pc.

Nope, it's really downclocking, trust me :) not all the time, sometimes. Where can I get some info on how to open and clean the fans for the m15x? I think that it's dust as well, since my computer spent last 3 months in a really dusty environment.

GPU temps of 107C are WAY too high. I'd suggest doing what everyone else here recommended. Either A. your fans are not working or B. they didn't properly apply the thermal paste so there is no contact being made between the GPU and heatsink.

This is frustrating ;(, I don't have any source of compressed air near me, except the hair dryer :D Also, if any of you cleaned the fans of m15x before, did you open the fans or just cleaned with all the plastics on?

EDIT: another strange thing is, when I touch my laptop, it doesn't seem to be that hot at all. Really not 100 degrees. I left it on the bed once a few months ago, and when it got to 100 degrees, it seemed to be way hotter. Could it be that the my computer reads the temperatures incorrectly?

what tool are you using the read temps.

when i clean out the m15x i remove the heat sink and fan and then use dust off and blow them all out. If you are going to remove the heat sink you should change the thermal paste but changing the thermal paste kills the warranty >>

I use riva turner. I found a guide on how to remove the heat sink. Guess I'll have to wait for a few days to buy dust off, all the shops are closed now :(.

Yay guys, just wanted to say thank you all. Just cleaned my fans. I was shocked when I saw a huge layer of dust on my fans. Now I'm running silent and cool - 40 degrees idle :)

    Thank you al for help.
