This is probably the hottest my video card ever got...For some reason it overheated on The Longest Jounrey PC Game, with 2x AA on and everything else set to high...

Whats wierd is that on newer games like Batman my video card never got so hot even with high settings and AA set to 2x...

Does memory affect the temperature of a videocard? Lets say I have other programs running in the backround while playing a game will that cause it to overheat?

At what temperature would a video card be considered overheating?

    100c is the limit

And no running programs won't hurt it.

You should check your paste , reinstall your driver and clean out your fans .

Fault driver installs can wreak havok on your temps

What are your computer spec?. If you hit 110c the gpu would shut down. I had a m17x with dual 9800 and one gpu would hit 99 to 110. The system should only be running up to 90c at the max.

108C??? My GPU never hit 70 and I already think its too hot. With 108C you can fry some eggs.

If it's running that high, you've got to do something about it VERY soon. Your GPU is going to burn out if it keeps running at that sort of temperature.

Anything above 80C is considered hot. Anything above 90C is considered dangerously hot.

    Its a M15x 2.5ghz Dual Core 4GB RAM, 8800M GTX.
I had this machine for about a year, this is my 3rd M15x ( Ripley Edition)...I almost burned my finger when I checked the back to see if it was hot then I checked on HW Monitor and it showed 109C! Whats crazy is the I had a Notebook Cooler running. How can I fix this?

The thermal paste might be bad. I had the same high temps as you (104 C) with a bad application of the thermal paste. You should re-do it. Make sure you put a fair amount on since the heatsink of the 8800 leaves a little gap between it and the GPU itself. The temps should go down. Mine went from 104 to 85 with a re-app of the the thermal paste.

If the main GPU is running that hot, then the best thing to do until you can fix it is run it on the intergrated GPU instead.
