I'm currently deployed to Iraq, and looking to purchase an M17, i'm looking at the most barebone for now, minus 1920x1200 and Crossfire, and buying all other upgrades later.
My question is if I don't plan on upgrading the CPU for atleast 6 months when i'm back in the states to most likely the QX9300, would the extra 250 now be worth it for the T9400, would I notice a difference in the games I play? I play games like FSX, COD4, Fallout 3, DOW2, COH, etc.
I'm currently using a G1s, 2.0ghz processor, 8600gt 256 vid card, 4gb ram, 320gb 7200rpm HDD, with Vista Ultimate 64.

i mean if your gonna upgrade soon then i wouldn't it will still run the games but there may be a little lag in the biggest fights etc...i would save the 250 even if i had to turn some settings down....
thanks for serving and good luck -
How much are QX9300's selling for now by themselves?
-
688-888 on ebay
-
Doesn't upgrading the CPU void the warranty?
-
yes it does.

What kind of price are we talking? I've also got an X9100 ES that I could use as collateral, plus a healthy dose of cash, of course. Are your chips OEM?

Alienware offers a 5% discount to military and they ship to Iraq. Added bonus, there is no tax on APO orders. So that is about $300 savings depending on your computer and the state you are from.
Plus there is a filter on the air intakes that has really keeps the dust out of my M17. I have probably exposed it to more dust opening it to clean it out than if I had left it alone. And there is a load of dust in the air here.
mdcgexxx, pm me if you have any questions. Doubt your on my FOB, but if you are, I will be glad to show you what you are thinking about buying. -
^^^Like Wise mdcgexxx. I too am currently in Iraq and have the M17 configured with the P8400. I love the computer. So far the only game I have not been able to play at max settings is Crysis. Other then that, all other games have been maxed out and look amazing. You'll be very happy with your purchase.

zfactor will help you out on the quad. but the only person i seen with the p8400 is ichime and he upgraded that fast. so i cant tell you how much better it will be because there is no one to show benchmarks for it. but i like the t9400. it a very fast chip.
-
t9400 is a great chip but they run super hot. most idle around 44deg. compare that to say the t9800 that idle at like 30-34 the t9400's are really hot. but i have to say its by far the best cheap cpu of the bunch
-
Is there a code to get the military discount, or is that doing it through aafes?
-
You have to contact them and give them your ako/dko (your military email) to prove you're military. I did it over the phone and replied to the email they sent me.
