Sorry for the late response, I haven't abandoned the project, just had a lot happening in life recently to keep me from it.

That's an odd problem, which I can't understand how PCFx caused, I'm at a loss for an answer.

Good idea, I'll look into the possibility of implementing this for the next version.

Thanks for the donation, you were the first to donate infact, so much appreciated and will if you want mention this in the first post when I release the next version. I'll also look into the possibility of adding options to change the high and low variables. Additionally I'm hoping to resolve zone confusion in the next version with the calibration idea.

Virtually the same response as done in the previous quote/paragraph to xeroxide, be patient and it will be done, for now subscribe to the thread and keep an eye for the next release.

Sounds like AlienFX isn't installed, can you confirm?

WOW!! C'mon people. If you use it and like it, send him a few bones for encouragement. This is a great program and can be really be expanded upon to do almost anything. Works perfectly on my M18x. Donation sent to you Mr. Paul. BTW-my name is Paul also...

And I must've just always overlooked it till I got this program but....didn't even know/realize the Caps lock, Scroll Lock and # lock changed with FX  Silly me....

Try extracting to your desktop then running it. I that works, put it in a new folder in Programs files somewhere then make a shortcut to the exe.

Do you have a 32 bit OS??? Looks like you are trying to load the 32 bit version. If you have 64 bit OS, go back to the first post and grab the 64 bit version.

So LightFX.dll exists in system32? If so I just wonder another thing, do you have the dreaded UAC enabled? If you do try running my program as administrator for a moment to see if it's a permission issue where it can't access the file it needs to load. If that still doesn't work then I'm at a loss :(. Oh, and what model is your laptop just for reference?

@pmassey31545: Many thanks for your donation. If you want I'll mention it on the first post upon editing it for the next version release.

haha donating is the easy part.
especially when the software makes your jaw drop.
all i can say is keep up the good work, cause it's an app with amazing potential... well for us alienware users anyway.

i showed this app to a buddy of mine and he actually showed signs of regret getting that macbook... golden moment right there.

Thanks, your last paragraph regarding the macbook was hilarious. I'm waiting on University results for level 5 of the BSc Hons in Computer Science to know whether I have any work over the summer holiday or not, if I don't I'll have plenty of time to work on PCFx. I'll post more soon when I know.

Ixel, This thing is totally awesome!

I just tried the basics (total CPU load, disk load, solid color) but I sat around converting movies and copying the Exchange server iso just to watch the CPU/disk max (and subsequent keyboard/grill colors change).

For anyone else with an m11x, the areas that i found where
    Program Name.......................................Computer Section
    Left Keyboard........................................Full Keyboard (obviously)
    Left Center Keyboard..............................Left Grill
    Right Center Keyboard.............................Right Grill
    Right Keyboard.......................................ALIENWARE logo (under screen)
Left Grill................................................Status lights (wifi, caps lock, etc)

    Keep up the good work!

Nope, not working for me, have no idea why though, I tried every method such as run as compatibility mode, as Admin, restart and run the program the first thing, still not working.

University results have come through and I've started work on it again.

    - The University results for this year allow me to progress unconditionally to the next year, meaning I have some free time during the summer to work on this project.
    - To attempt to improve compatibility and functionality of PCFx, and in the hopes that when having done so that people who use it will either mention it to others and/or donate something as a thanks for the time and effort spent.

If this project turns out to be a fairly used one then I might open a small site dedicated to it, and continue adding new ideas and suggestions accordingly.

Not too well this year, but my work in other modules was well above standards expected and the fact on one or two of the exams were just 1-2 marks below pass made the exam board come to the decision to allow me to proceed unconditionally anyway. The two years prior to this year were much better than this year, with average of A's and B's across all modules, definitely A's through every Java exam and coursework.

Ixel - How hard would it be to create a program that will use the AlienFX as ambient lighting to DirectX Games?

Example: In call of duty, on a forest like map the majority of the colors on the screen are greenish. So the colors of the AlienFX will be that same tint as the green on the screen. When the player fires their gun, the AlienFX flash white in sync with the mussel flash of the weapon.

Does that make sense? I couldn't find anything out there that already does that.

The project isn't dead, I class it as active still, however I just haven't had the time spare to work on it lately. University preperation for the final year project, overclocking my new i7 2600K computer, and life in general have held me back. I will try and get a new version out asap.

Any chance of you releasing the source code?

The current news is that I've been busy with developing a final year project, as advised to do over the summer holiday, that involves having an interface which allows use of both DirectX and OpenGL, but as an interface only requires one set of methods to use it. As such I haven't had time to develop PCFx further, but I still do not consider it a discontinued project. When I get round to developing it further I may however make further ideas onto the program and release it as a small commercial program for all Alienware computers, this as such will help not only with University costs and such, but also likely help motivate me into making the project as great and as long as possible. If I do this I will give a free copy to those who have already donated as well as mention this in the credits of the program.

If people don't like this move then please say so, feedback is important for any project. I may also rewrite the program in C++ as opposed to C#, for optimising reasons. I will try and begin development once I know what the University demands of me this year (should know in October).

Last but not least, the source is closed. As part of an update (if it was commercial) I would use LUA or Python to allow extensions to be made to the program, or for automated 'scripts' to be made.

Could add support to m11x, Keyboard works already, as for other zones it just a matter of pointing to the correct hardware address.

    Left Keyboard - gpu0 temp
Left Center Keyboad - gpu0 temp
Right Center Keyboard - gpu1 temp
    Right Keyboard - gpu1 temp
    Touchpad - CPU Total Load
    Left Grill - gpu0 Load
    Right Grill - gpu0 Load
    ---------------------

Can I ask for a option to autostart with windows.
    &
On dual graphics cards systems can you plz label the cards 1 and 2, or 0 and 1. Like u labeled the cpu cores. Its a little confusing in your current implementation.

    Hi,
Thanks. I should be able to find a little bit of time during the December holidays from University to update it a bit, I'll see about adding an option for starting with windows automatically, and minimised. I'll also look into the possibility of what you mentioned regarding dual GPU systems.

Hmm... not sure how I missed this old thread, but I do not remember seeing it before. If donations were very rare and most people expected it for free, perhaps the author lost his incentive to continue working on it.

It may not need to be updated for the new Alienware products. I would try it and find out. I will try it on the 18 maybe later today if I have time to tinker with it.

I just tested this with the M18xR2 and it works fine. I set the first four keyboard zone options for temps on each CPU core and ran wPrime 32M and watched my keyboard morph from green to red.

Its a great little program. If I were able to set what the 'high' and 'lows' were for GPU/CPU temps I'd make in a start up program.
Such a shame, there isn't much more work required to make this program a valuable tool.
