hi,
does anyone know if a PCI-Express SSD (like the z-series from OCZ) is going to work in a m17x r2 ? and what motherboard / chipset does the m17x r2 have?

thanks!

Aren't the Z series Full size PCIE rather then Mini PCIE?, I know there are Mini PCIE SSDs about but from the ones i've sure the performance of them isn't all that good, Most likely becasue Mini PCIE is generally limited to 1X unlike then the desktop counterparts.
Edit - I assume you mean something like this ( http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/solid_state_drives/ocz_minipci_express_ssd-sata_)
I don't see any reason that a Mini PCIE SSD wouldn't work aslong as all of the appropriate pins are available on the slot but again, Performance isn't astounding.
P.S - Unless the R2 has a free slot you may have to give up Wifi and/or Bluetooth. -
hi,
thanks for your reply. i meant the regular PCI-Express Z-drives ( http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/solid_state_drives/pci-e_solid_state_drives ) not the mini ones but I guess those won't fit in the m17x? -
No problem,
Sorry No they won't fit, They are the same standard but the Normal ones are for desktop PC use, no laptops have full size PCIE slots only the Mini PCIE.
The latter can be used if you wish, i THINK the M17x has a spare slot, but don't hold me to that
Someone correct me
