    hi all

i have the new alienware m17x and i refuse to say dell lol.

is there anyway to make these drives faster ?

i ask this cos my AS SSD BENCHMARK shows my write speeds as low at 60mb/s when it should be hitting 200 mb/s.
my read speeds are fantastic my benchmark hit it at 335mb/s.

i have gone resource monitor and i dont see anything using 160mb/s

i cannot figure it out and i hope someone out there can help me.

    thank you
    mike

Have you written to the drive a lot? How much space free do you have?

It might need cleaning, but that is a subject for another thread....

Do you have 2 of those drives in a RAID 0 setup?

Well, write performance will deteriorate very quickly with these drives once they start filling up.

This is an inherent problem with all current-gen SSD's. Until firmware gets released to have a garbage-collecting feature than your going to have to use something like secure erase to get it back to stock speeds.

I am not going to do a whole write-up here, so I'd suggest you post in the SSD thread or google "SSD write performance"...

SSDs sound like more trouble than they are worth, honestly.

I have a simlar set up as your machine, 2X256 gig SSD's in raid 0.
My hd tune score was 147 min, 291 max, and average 221. I have 377 gig free. After researching about the drives, you'll find alot of different opinions.
For me, I would next to never defrag these drives. Also, I have turned off the auto defrag feature in Vista 64.
I hoping that new firmware will be available soon to help increase the efficiency.

Yup never defrag an SSD there just no pointm the whole defrang is meant for traditional HDD where access time deteriorates with multiple different files having to be accessed from all over the disk.... on SSD acces times are <0.2 MS vs 8.0 on HDD so clearly this is not an issue ever.

That said, you still need to maintail the drives instead of defrag you need to Trim, unfortunately there isnt anything in Vista/XP to support this however Windows 7 will have native SSD support.

The good news is that you can maintain this with other tools. Diskkeeper does a great job (I hear)

Check HyperFast Technology on this link:

    http://www.diskeeper.com/diskeeper/home/home.aspx

Also SSD is a new technology so there isn't a ton of expertise, but this forum has a ton of resources (may not be Samsung but an SSD is an SSD :D )

hey that was a great article! Confirms everything I thought about SSDs, and why I was right to not go with them for now.
