Since Dell/AW released their refreshed version of the M17x and several of you have these on order, your AW Mods are working on setting up the benchmark thread(s). We are discussing a few ideas and would like your feedback.
1. Should the M17x benchmark thread include i5/i7 as well as Core 2 Duo systems or would you like the i5/i7 to have a thread of its own apart from the C2Duo system?
2. Do the M15x owners want a benchmarking thread?
3. Do our veteran Area-51 owners want a benchmarking thread of their own?
Mandrake has agreed to handle/track the top scores for the M17x thread. In the event the poll shows M17x owners want a separate thread for the C2Duo model, we will need a member to step forward for this as well. Same applies to the M15x / Area-51 threads (if we go that route).
So, lets see some feedback...![]()

I would like to see two Benchmark setup under one thread. ( It's easy to see who setup stands where compared to others. Most important, we don't have to jump thread) And these are:
1) Benchmark for Dual GPU setup. Include i5/i7 as well as Core 2 Duo.
2) Benchmark for Single GPU setup. Include i5/i7 as well as Core 2 Duo.
Each should be broken down to 10 category to have Top 10 Benchmarkers.
Example:
For Dual GPU Setup: (m17, m17x-R1 , and m17x-R2)
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK06 Overall
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage Overall
Top 10 For Highest Score 3DMARK06 i7
Top 10 For Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage i7
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK06 i5
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage i5
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK06 i3
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage i3
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK06 C2D
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK06 Vantage C2D
For Single GPU Setup: (Area-51 , m15x)
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK06 Overall
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage Overall
Top 10 For Highest Score 3DMARK06 i7
Top 10 For Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage i7
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK06 i5
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage i5
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK06 i3
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage i3
Top 10 for Highest Score 3Dmark 06 C2D
Top 10 for Highest Score 3DMARK Vantage C2D
Batboy, I can help also. with score tracking.
It's a start. Any other ideas? -
IMO its a huge hassle ...
Keep them in side topics because benchmarking is not priority news...
I think just keep them all in one thread ( for each model) then put your specs ? Simple enough for me -

I voted for the second option, I think the M17x i5/i7 and C2D benchmark/OC threads should be separate IMO, it just makes things easier on everyone who wants info on their particular config without having to sift through too much stuff not related to their system.
I do agree with Moo that the benchmark/OC threads should be kept in side topics though. -
While it would be interesting to have a combined thread to see where C2D systems rank among i5/i7, it would really put them at a disadvantage to get into the top 10 if that is a goal of that person. I'd like to see two threads, and maybe a post in each thread that compares the scores. However, I know that it's a lot of work, and those that handle/track might have other priorities. How ever it's decided I think will be fine. I like to think that others visit the benchmarking thread to help compare the capabilities of each system setup. I do like Rengseys idea because then it will give you an idea if where your system stands when compared to other similiar systems.

Since the community of benchmarkers are small, there is no hassle that I can see. -
or big xxx needs to finish his database

I think what we need to think about the long run. Are they going to keep the M15x and M17x as the Main names for the Laptops. So far there 3 Versons of the M17x. Some of you will go one lower case. But not the point I am making My point is They seem to stop useing names Like M17 or M5550 or M1970. Which help in knowing what system has.
I think it should be
M17x core 2
M17x i5/i7 -
I voted for all in one thread. I can see people making comparisons between C2D and i7 and this way you are not bouncing between threads.
-

Also agree with one thread for benchmarking. Frankly its going to be useful for users as well as anonymous browsers to find quick easy comparisons and information. Dont forget the market still has plenty of M17x's for sale and some might find them to be a good value when compared to the R2 performance especially if they don't lag far behind.

I would say one thread for M15x All Powerful, one for Area-51 m15x, one for M17x All Powerful (both models in one thread)
Pretty much, one thread per laptop model -
No one benchs on the old models ... 75% are all broke ;p
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya, but it keeps them out of our threads lol
-
keep updated scores in the first op post to be more organized, instead of going through dozens of pages to look for a single benchmark.
-
M15x really need a benchmark thread, I want to see where I'm ranked (it wont be very high anyways
) it could be fun!
M17x shouldnt bother with two threads. -

if they do a thread for each different set up all this forum is going to be full of benchmark threads, but i agree to open a m15x benchmark thread and one for the refresh but all in one thread

1: i concur..big needs to finish and widen the specs on the database. that would be the best idea to run..since everyone can submit and it's located in one place. people keep the link in their sigs and advise to submit there. then use the benching threads to shop pics and discuss tactics. and remove that stupid "your off topic nonsense"
2:in the benchmark threads or people posting benchmarks...get in the habit of labeling the bench ran. have a universal naming scheme. why? because now when you search the threads, it makes it that much easier to find the relevant information for those looking for just crysis or vantage or 3dmark06.
3:your going to have multiple benchmark threads regardless, because not everyone agrees..for what ever reasons or don't want to jump threads (speculations of course) and is this threading going to be sticky-ed or get lost in the many new threads? another tough call.
just some ideas...
i haven't voted yet, because it's a tough call. people like to take what they have learned or already know and go up against other systems for fun or serious competitions. and not to mention the other new systems coming out will want to bench against this system as well. (just my opinion, but im thinking it's seriously time to get this database thing going in full speed. it will make things that much easier for the whole benching or non benching community. -
Since the poll is now closed we will be rolling out the threads shortly - most likely on the 28th.
The M17x thread will cover all models/configs.
The M15x will have a thread.
The Area-51 users will have a thread as well.
More will follow - thanks for sharing your input folks! -
The threads are now up - have fun.
