It would be interesting to know how many people have been affected by this issue on NBR. This idea is from Mandrake (good Idea :D ).

Please vote, and reply if you did vote. Share your story.

This also helps people like me who are in the market for a gaming system.

Let me repost what I posted in your other thread Xenon.

I have had my m15x since July last year. Ordered it through Alienware UK, had a lot of problems with their billing department at first, but it eventually got resolved. Order arrived 2 days after they shipped it out.

Have heard of a lot of horror stories with the hinge, hence why I decided to do a lil extra reinforcement for it. My fix can be found in this link:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...ght=black+m15x

It's been great so far, can't really say that the m15x has that much competition when it comes to it's flexibility.

No, hardware problems at all, even before the x32 bios update. However, I'm starting to see some the hinge gapping a little on the right side. I'll probably send it in one school's out.

I'm still waiting to see if the hinges have broke on a m15x with a Skullcap lid. Anyone? Until I hear otherwise I'm assuming those are made differently.

None of the regular problems on my system however I did have a random screw left in my system that caused the card reader to be useless. I managed to pry it out eventually but I can't stop wondering whether that screw should have been fastened somewhere.

Is this poll for all models or just the m15x?

I have had no problems what so ever with mine. I am using it as a Desktop replacement, I move it from my desk about once or twice a week, and I never close the lid unless I have to. I have a Hardcase to put it in when I do move it. I clean the insides out about once a month. I take really good care of it.
The highest GPU temp I have seen was 92C but that was with 2 hours of running ozone fur stability test. Never seen my CPU over 50C.

ive had absolutely no hinge issues at all. i tightened the screws at the bottom of the monitor.
ive never seen my gpu over 92 and that was with an hour of mirrors edge maxed out and not the best ventilation.
cpu never gone above 51. i move my laptop around all the time to and from college. i have the skullcap.

Do the skullcap lids give have a noticeable "creak" to them when opening and closing?

My original m15x had a gap above the Ethernet port and my replacement's hinge broke after 3 months; both were Ripley. :(

My third m15x was Skullcap and I didn't see any difference in the design of the hinge. It does creak less the more you open and close the lid (that's what I noticed). Also, tightening the screws around the hinge will make the display less wobbly and the hinge stronger. The m15x would have been a PERFECT system if the build quality didn't suck which the reason I returned it :( .

but, the chances of an "affected" user coming here to NBR (seeking infos&help) are higher than the chances of an "unaffected" user coming here.

You mean we're not just a group of enthusiasts? :D Don't you think NBR represents both groups to make this poll have some meaning?

oh, certainly NBR has many enthusiasts. however, i think that quite a few of those who voted in the "yes i have had hinge issues" category came here specifically because of that issue.

Maybe... but still i was on this forum before i even ordered a Alienware m15x. I think that people come here to gather information on the product, before they buy it.
