I notice you said the best laptop speakers you have heard so far. FOr me they are the worst ever! Barely able to turn up the volume and tinny sounding with almost no bass. Hmmm myabe mine are just not workin right.

By any chance, does this system underclock when not on a/c power? I remember when the XPS series first came out, you couldn't get "full" speed unless you had the a/c plugged in.

Hey, can you talk a little bit more about the touchpad. I get the point that it is the same material as the rest of the computer, but do you like it, or dislike it. What's the overall result?

Well the touchpad has its advantages and disadvantages. First off it is nice and looks sleek since it blends in with the rest of the computer. However it is hard to use at times. Especially if you are looking for something extremely responsive. Although alienware does include a clear pad type thing that you can paste on top of the track pad to give it more traction. The pad also increases responsativity.

I am anti touch pad! You will not catch me using it even in an emergency. I have my nifty bluetooth mouse at my side always. I would even plug a massive pancake-sized desktop mouse with a cord into my laptop before I would even think of using an icky touch pad.

I have mastered the art of using a mouse on *any* surface. :D The touchpad is never an issue for me. In fact it's disabled most of the time anyways.

On my Inspiron 8500, you could set each of the four corners of the "touch pad area" to do different functions, i usually set the bottom right to right click and the rst for double click etc.

Can you do the same with the new AW touch pad?

When i finally get a M17x i am going to order a Razer Lechasis and eXactMat, so i will only use the touch pad for "mobile gaming", mind you i'm thinking that unless i'm carrying a portable generator it won't be for long

Have you had any experience of Razer products, seeing how you've got a "few" notebooks? ;)

Cool, i figured that if i'm getting "The best gaming laptop lol" i'd get the best mouse to play with. I'm not a fan of using the touch pad for gaming as it's too slow and i'm more use to using a "normal" mouse for working. I do have it at full speed though. My work mouse is a notebook optical mouse 3000, not highly specked etc but, 2000 dpi which makes for great accuracy lol

Anyone use Razer mouse (or should that be Mice lol)

I have a Razer Deathadder. I love it! I could never go back to any other mouse after using it. I went out and bought the Razer Barracuda headset after that purchase and I am looking to buy this mousepad for it:

    Nice :)
I was reading about all three types of mats and decidede that the metal one would work better with the Lachesis for it's 4000 dpi :D
I did note that the Destructor comes with it's own case, whereas the eXactmat does not!!!

I keep thinking about getting a serious mouse.
especially when someone else on HL2 Deathmatch manages to be much more accurate than me.....its got to count for something :)

and yes its offtopic talking about the mouse to go with the notebook oops :)

It's the highest dpi mouse out (or so i believe), gives much faster response for gaming, the mouse mat has two sides, one for accuracy and the other for speed.
I use a 2000 dpi mouse, believe me when i have to use a Dell mouse for example, it seems so slow and unresponsive.
For RPR's or games like Doom, i thini having a good mouse makes all the difference as you can turn/look and shoot that bit quicker.

Cool, cheers guys, sound like the Razer Lachesis it will be then.

Packer445, i have a few questions (sorry but you're the only person who has an M15X working and is willing to answer questions, so far) :-

1). When you fiurst turned you're new baby on fore the first time, was Vista fully working, or did you have to set-up Windows from scratch?

2). What if anything was pre-installed i.e. bloatware!!!

3). Any comments on the build quality, hinges etc.

    Thanks

Alienware doesn't have "bloatware" as such, just the standard things to get it goin. No add on trial stuff that u usually get from dell and sony.

    Mouse pad for better gaming?
really? I've always done well with whatever mouse (provided it was a laser mouse) Even the dell one is fine for me. I play FPS and RTS and I find it easy to use. admittedly you need to turn up ingame sensitivity for some FPS but hey, i ain't complaining. Tho will be funny flying a gunship with an extra fast mouse for the 1st time.

There wasnt any random software that you dont want. You go through a short vista setup just to like make ur username and what not but yes vista is already installed. Build quality is very nice screen is stiff but does have some give when it is opened up. Hope that helps OB just let me know if u need anything else

    Thanks Packer, you're a star.
I asked mainly because i'm waiting (forever lol) to get a M17X and hoping that the build quality etc. will be the same high standard on both models.
I'd guess a best 5 and worst 5 could be useful for anyone thinking of buying one, and not sure yet! Apart from that, i hope you're enjoying your new Mini-Beast, and long may it continue.

xj036e - If they are selling a respawn kit i'd guess the OS is pre-installed, you don't normally get a full OS CD.
I order pc's from Dell for work and they come without CD's, have some kind of partition instead. I hope this helps.
Personally i'm getting the respawn DVD, to be safe

'Til I saw that matching mouse to Packer's M15, I thought I'd get by just fine with the mousepad like I did on my Pavilion (I wore off the coat of paint within a week of buying Halo) but now, the mouse of glowy must be mine. Razer, right?
