For those of you who have returned your systems, preferably the m9750, how would you suggest I pack it in a safe and secure way? Unfortunately I threw away the box a couple of months ago and now I need something to send it back in. The technical support guy told me to wrap it in 4-5 layers of bubblewrap, any other suggestions? If some Fed-Ex guy manhandles it, which I know he will, I do not want to be liable. Suggestions?

    How's it going Agatius,
I was under that impression that Alienware didn't allow system returns after a month. Did they make an exception? Also, to answer your question, I would probably put as much bubbles and peanuts in the box as I could. Any shipping business could probably help out with better packing.

Fed-EX Kinko stores actually sell a padded laptop ship box for $20 but be sure to pack that into another plain brown box so as not to alert theft !

@Gabe - I think he is sending the computer back for a technical problem, not actually returning the system.

@Agatius - First of all, go to your local post office or something and get a good sized box. Next, use 4 / 5 layers of bubblewrap to pack the laptop and you should be good, just make to seal the laptop very well and make sure that there is no "jiggle" in between the padding and the box.

Like stone said, I am just sending it in for repairs.

no jiggle.. So I should make sure the laptop is really tight and secure, like it can't move an inch? This is the first time I've shipped something back for repairs, so I am a bit paranoid.

Yeah, keep it from sliding around in the box. You should have a box that is at least 4 inches bigger than the laptop in every direction so that there is 2 inches of padding on all sides. That should reduce vibration and damage and prevent mechanical damage if anything breaks into the box.

get a good box... 3-4 corrugates (layers of ridges) when you see the cut edge of the carton...

this will stand up to most pressures and ups/fedex "tosses" that they love to do...

bubble wrap first, make sure that all vent are not exposed to peanuts...
layer packing peanuts on the box, insert your laptop, insert more peanuts around your laptop and fill...

tape your carton well... use good tape... tape the edges as well...

packing peanut can and will crumble... if you get it inside your lappy... you wont be happy...

make sure u get insurance on it at the place your shipping it from. Then if they break it you dont have to worry.

The cost of an AW laptop may be over what shipping insurance is offered.

I would recommend the laptop sleeves sold by Fedex, they seem to work well.

I decided to ship it back in one of those boxes that Lenovo sends for their laptops. It was pretty much the same layout as the Alienware box it shipped in, but with foam all around it so I think it should be safe.
