I was thinking of doing a paint job on the M15x to a glossy black. Anyone know if this is safe or if there are any side effects? Also if you know anyone that does this in NY?

good luck. its a pretty hard job and time consuming.

make shure you sand prime paint clear coat wax. to get the piano finnish.

and make shure you take the whole thing apart and take pics of the screws so youwill know how to putit back together.

iv done it a few years ago on my sony laptop. turned out pretty good. i prefer the matt black finnish.

Be careful about the top part... the touch controls will need to be painted around carefully.

in the black book that came with your m15x there should be 2 textured touchpad stickers. one that says alienware in alien symbols and one that is plain. its just to put on the touch pad so it feels much better to use. i definitely like using it way more than the stock touchpad.

I removed the Alien sticker from my touchpad, before applying the matte black gmask to it. No damage done to the finish whatsoever. ;)

Same here, I went through both of my stickers, removed them with no problem. (Did like, didn't like, did like, didn't like...) Now I prefer the normal surface of the touchpad.
