So, I ordered my m17x yesterday and received an e-mail this morning that I thought I should report on, 'cos it's quite funny. So, I checked my e-mail when I woke up and saw an e-mail from dell with the title "Dell Order - Part Unavailable". As I'm opening it, I'm thinking ", the 260s must be out of stock". Actually, no, this is what was out of stock:

    Avatar : Alien Cyborg /sku:644-10003, deduct cost:0.00 £

Just to clarify, for those confused, it's this:

Now, this was a mere luxury that I thought I'd take up. I mean, it looked pretty cool to me so I thought I'd add it. Anyway, my initial reaction was that it was rather funny they were updating me an avatar being unavaiable. Reading the e-mail further, this had apparently stopped the progress of my order; Dell needed a reply from me and the two options were (1) place order without unavailable part(s) and deduct cost from my order or (2) cancel my Order - I will place a new order online without this part. Is it just me or is that completely retarded? Surely that's not something worth delaying my order about? I don't think anyone really cares about a pretty picture enough for it to delay their laptop.

I guess I've learnt for next time - never order useless extras.

(agrees) and LOL they delayed your order because of an avatar. I guess they would assume you would not want the laptop unless you could have the 1 inch avatar staring you in the face.

That has to be the strangest 'stop' on a purchase I have ever seen.

Its pretty stupid, but remember the laptop is new so I guess they are still working out the kinks in the order process. Send them a mail to let them know perhaps?

I replied to the e-mail, which allowed the order to continue being processed. I might phone them tomorrow to confirm everything(payment, engraved customisation etc.) is going okay

    I LOL'd in real life.

That's probably the most retarded thing I've ever heard from AW.

Then again I also find it retarded that my laptop has been waiting, packaged, in their warehouse for a bloody week now. How hard is it for them to give it to DHL?...

I don't know if it's like this in the US, but Alienware and Dell are now completely seperate in the UK. When I e-mailed AW regarding my order (I gave them my order number and internet receipt no.), they said there was no record of my order with them. They also said that my e-mail address had not been registered for an order. So I did the same with Dell and they confirmed my order. I guess this further supports the argument that Dell are taking over entirely.

My order is from the UK. (I'm in the middle east) But anyways. Maybe the problem is the integration that they're currently doing.

The funny thing is that I spoke to them yesterday and they said that it's still in the warehouse. What laptop did you order? If you ordered the new M17x (which is on the dell site) that might explain why dell have a record of it and you don't.

Yeah, it was the m17x. I think that AW are dealing with orders for the m15x and the m17 but Dell have taken over the m17x and will do the same with any future laptops. Who knows...
