This is my first post
I was getting ready to order a m15x when it gave me a error and when i went back to reconfigure it showed that now they have the new C2D including the C2E X9000
-
now lets hope they get the new chip set when it comes out this summer

i just told her to swap mine out since ive been waiting forever for my machine and its in phase 5 still. Im sure she will tell me to stick it..
-
Brilliant, hopefully the UK will adopt shortly.
Looks like M17x will be shipping with Penryn as I hoped. -

wow I actually didn't believe you at first. This is fantastic news for all those who suddenly hate alienware for not supporting Penryn. And they thought it would never happen
. by new chipset are you talking about montevina?
-
Yeah the next one is Montevina i believe
Thank goodness i waited on this, if i had waited any longer i might have gone with a XPS m1730, but now my choice is the m15x
THANK YOU ALIENWARE
Now i just got to order me one of these bad boys -
It seems I was wrong...maybe Alienware is listening...
PS: Maybe they'll give the T9300 as default in UK (or at least the T8300). -
I noticed the stock CPU is the T9300.
I wonder if the UK stock CPU will be the same, as the current one is the T7500, which if it will be, it is a fair bit faster.
Mind you I think the stock US was a T7700 was it not?, Maybe the UK will get the T8300 for stock - who knows!
I feel a bit sorry for the guys who have just recently had one shipped in the US, could have had a Penryn for the same price :/ -
i hope there listening because this summer there is a lot of tech coming out that will add a big bust in performances for every thing
i just need to wait for the m17x, now
-
Hopefully the M17x will come at the same price.
-
For whats it worth the m15x is a much better deal now than the XPS m1730 b/c it has the T9300 stock compared to the T8300 with the 1730, hopefully this will be a sign that the m17x is coming soon
-
i hope so because if the m17x cost to much i will have to go some where else to buy my new notebook, i really need a 17" screen

Now if they will only add en eSATA port i'm happy! Fade to Black this must be one of those awkward moments. your never wrong! alas alienware has proved many wrong by switching. to bad it took so long.
-
That's gay I'm at Phase 4, but in Europe. I wonder if I can catch them in time, and change my order as it's pre-production.
If not I'll just return the box when it's delivered without opening it, then reorder with a Penryn. -
Well this is going to be pretty crazy once i get my m15x(unless i choose a m17x) its going to be faster than my gaming rig
-
nice to see
-
-
Europe has Penryn now too
-
.......ponders.......Do i wait for m17x or go for the 15x with x9000 now
-
Well, I am in Phase 5 and will call now to make the change. I bet I will go all the way back to phase 2. It is a shame, but better to get the newest technology now, than be impatient and be sorry later.
-
-
The question is, do I get the T9500 or the 9000. What are your opinions??? Help B4 I make the call.
-
You've waited this long, at least give it till the end of the month. Imagine two 8800's with the x9000. That'll be a beast.
-
x9000 will be tuneable.......
I don't like sensible people Raziel -
SWow nice, Penryn processors for about the same price as the old processors. Now my question was:
1.How long till the M17x comes out? They said Q1 2008, you guys think this estimate is accurate? if it is, then it should be out at the end of next month?
2. How much you think it will cost to et a M17x? I confirgured a dell with max specs minus the blue ray drive, and I got $4800, but after the isntant savings they have it was about $4299
You think the price of the AW will be about $4800 for a almost specced out version? with a X9000 chip + 4 gigs of ram + dual sli 8800 gtx? or will the price be $1000 more as I predicted at $5800?
What do you guys think? I was thinking of purchasing my dell 1730 today, should I wait another month for the m17x? is it worth it? -
Personally i would stick with the 9500 and later on if you did the extra speed see if you can have Alienware upgrade it under warrenty -
Yeah that will be crazy, the m17x will be here soon enough
Hopefully they will bring out the Skullcap design soon to -
FirstN20, I think it'll be around the same price as the dell. Save some money though and just install the ram yourself. They overcharge for 4gb. You can buy it yourself for $100 and install it in minutes for free.
-
Well once i get my hands on one of these bad boys i hope my gaming rig will understand why i am playing more on a laptop than the desktop
-
Well I play COD4, have not gotten Crysis as my current lappy will not play it. I am on with AW now...
What to do, what to do? 9500 OR 9000???????
I seem tokeep my lappies for 3 years or so... -
Don't bother with the T9500, not worth the cost!
Personally, I think the T9300 is plenty for one 8800 GTX, go for the X9000 in the M17x with SLI (is what I will be doing shortly!) -
I'd stick with the T9300, it's $275 cheaper then the T9500 and only .1 ghz slower.
-
So go with the faster processor
-
the trouble with doing the upgrade to the X9000 AFTERWARDS is that AW may need to run extra cooling from gigabyte or something when installing the Extremes due to the higher power consumption
-
I am going with the 9500. I do not plan on OC'ing and I just feel it will be a waste of $400 for me...
It cost me $25 to go from the T7800 to the T9500. I am a hapy camper. Just have to play the waiting game a bit longer now. -
-
Mmmm. The lowest-end option for the UK is the T9300. Hmmmmmmmmmmm - I wonder what that means.
-
The T9300 is the lowest end option for the U.S. as well.
Glad mine did not ship, I was able to make the change no problem! -
This may be a dumb question, but how will we be able to tell when AW changes the chip set?
-
I'd actually already caved and ordered the m15x earlier; seeing some pictures of the silver m15x changed my mind about it, though. The black LCD panel rim and keyboard just don't go well with the silver everything else. I'm waiting on the black Ripley.
Now I can get it with Penryn! -
-
Now once i get this hopefully it will stand up to Far Cry 2 when it comes out -
the m17x is a pointless spec... with Sli u will get like no battery life and its size makes it not portable (its the same size as the 1720 look closely at the pics its ALOT higher than the m15x (has a extensive raised black area that looks like its part of the podiums it was on.
if u want sli in a laptop its not going to be portable period and if some things not portable u don't need battery life thus making the hole smartbay and mXXx series poitnless.. so your best bet is to go for the xps1730
if u want portable+ battery+ high end gaming get the m15x with smart bay battery..
running a sli laptop on integrated for class or what ever thats 17inch seems highly foolish.
getting a single smartbay battery in the m17x prob gives u a hour at best at gaming with sli turned on .... (and on battery by default the laptops not performing at max speed regardless).
the current deal on the dell 1730 for aus at least will blow any m17x deal out of the water.. its 800 cheaper than the dell m15x!! so expect the m17x to cost even close to dubble the 1730 O_O esp if your a student.
so far i've only been able to get a 3% student discount from alienware Australia... whats up with that?
also alienware Australia told me that the first skullcap cases(end of march for AUS) will not have a gloss paint job but rather a gun silver color NO BLACK(i assume like the older alienwares m9750 stealth black what ever but in gray?) seems like the complaints about the glossy paint job effecting touch pad etc where taken into account.
black non gloss is prob what i want atm.. but i may go with silver non gloss.
Gloss looks tacky to me. -

I think many buyers will now be disapointet with their old CPUs. I hope they will get full config as soon as possible... And Black Ripley, offcourse
-
My choice is going to the be the M17x with two internal 32GB SSD's in Raid. Then the Smart Bay comes into it's own for hosting a 200gb 7200RPM drive.
The M17x will also be able to turn off the 8800's, so if a battery was used in the Smart Bay, it would actually be of use. -
Thats the best part of the Stealth mode, you dont get that in the 1730 -
Europe got the T9300 as the basic choice. And if you select the middle configurated M15x (out of the three options on the top of the page), then remove the WUXGA screen and extreme CPU, the starting price is 1518 UK.
PS: I hope you're not reading this Alienware. -
The middle config was set @ £2049, now £2099
Pity about the price hike, M17x it is -
humm well stealth mode is only underclocking the gpu's not using Intel Integrated / prob turning one off totaly in the m17x's case.
looking at the m15x data from this review http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=216609 (yes the data is not rock solid but a good indication and matches word for word what AW reps said at CES in 2 dif interviews)
\\4hours\ in stealth mode with the smart bay battery
unknown what vista performance mode but prob stealth mode does the same settings as balanced or low power vista etc
\\5hours\ in bineryFX with smart bay battery (integrated gfx and requires reboot)
this last one is in high performance vista with integrated WHOA!
i think 2-3 hours with 1 only one gpu on under clocked is prob the best u can expect from the m17x with a smart bay battery ... prob 2 tops with out the bay battery
maby 4 hours with smart bay and binaryFX integrated on
but for some reason i think u will have your m17x second gpu completely turned off 100% of the time while its not plug ed into a wall which kind of defeats the purpose of the hole design/smart bay/sli of the series to me at least. and you can already get a single 8800mGTX 17inch that can get the same battery times with out being under clocked as much and with out a stealth mode turned on and with out a smart bay battery for a fraction of the price np5973
SSD and peryn would prob change the results abit and effect which one you go for and the m17x may come with that 9cell smartbay battery standard or even a larger smart bay?? ..
be interesting to see if they can actually make portable sli work. But i still cant get my head around the numbers not for my personal portable use. A 17inch portable word processor ain't viable for me at least as a 3dstudent/gamer or as a alienware product.
If u can stick to using BinerayFX integrated for day to day portable use then i can totally see the appeal.. however your par of 8800mGTX's are going to get mighty cold and heavy. -

i think they raised the price in Europe.... That sucks...
