The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

PLEASE, Please and again Please Stop moving posts into huge threads. Really.
The search feature is totally destroyed because the 174 PAGE thread has the correct answers BURIED in it.
I know you are trying to organize the forums but the sticky categories are far too vague.
Yes, the 15x is no longer an item on Dell and most of the older members (thousands of posts) have moved on.
These facts leave the newer members to support first time visitors that dont know how to use an advanced search.
After two and a half years, myself, searching for the answer to a question and finding it on page 152 is cruel !!
Tell me why EVERYTHING isnt under the 'Official Owners Lounge'. VAGUE? Is anything NOT related to owners of the m15x ? Everything IS a technical issue.
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Stop. Please.

    and Thank you.

Amen. The compulsion to consolidate has made both getting and giving advice in this forum far less efficient. More often than not, the consolidated post(s) effectively disappears into one of the huge general issue threads (often in another, entirely different section) where it ends up being stranded. This has long been one of the most helpful and responsive forums on NBR, but the new emphasis threatens that status. There is unquestionably a great deal of repetition in the issues raised, and consolidation into a prior thread addressing the same specific problem or issue would be useful to everyone, but indiscriminately tossing everything into a few general topic threads is not helping anyone. :)

Hello, Hub, i'll try to answer, explain and give a few tips.

First of all NBR is not the only place where you have to use Google in order to perform a custom search. Some of them have it built in but still use Google and search the forum like us, in this case you just have to open another browser tab and do the following:

    To search the entire forum:
    Code:
    [B]site:forum.notebookreview.com[/B] INSERT SEARCH QUERY HERE

    example:
    [B]site:forum.notebookreview.com[/B] [COLOR="Red"]how to search the forum[/COLOR]

    [URL="https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&source=hp&q=site:forum.notebookreview.com+how+to+search+the+forum&pbx=1&oq=site:forum.notebookreview.com+how+to+search+the+forum&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=253743l257740l1l258540l23l15l0l0l0l0l406l2525l0.3.4.2.1l10l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=a832e4bee034e5be&biw=1920&bih=949"]RESULT[/URL]

To search the Alienware M15x subforum: (same goes for the other subforums, just replace the model name)
    Code:
    site:forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m15x/ [INSERT SEARCH QUERY HERE]

    example:
    [B]site:forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m15x/[/B] [COLOR="Red"]CPU upgrade[/COLOR]

    [URL="https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&source=hp&q=site%3Aforum.notebookreview.com%2Falienware-m15x%2F+CPU+upgrade&pbx=1&oq=site:forum.notebookreview.com%2Falienware-m15x%2F+CPU+upgrade&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=195137l202543l2l203118l19l17l1l0l0l1l1491l6040l0.5.7.1.1.1.1.1l18l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=a832e4bee034e5be&biw=1920&bih=949"]RESULT[/URL]
To search a specific thread (the mobility 6970/6990 thread per example):
    Code:
    [B]site:forum.notebookreview.com/[/B][COLOR="Red"]alienware-m15x/571445-m15x-6970m-6990m-what-you-need-know-upgrading-problems-solutions [/COLOR] [COLOR="DarkGreen"][B]enable overdrive[/B][/COLOR]

I know it's a little longer but it gets the job done. If posts or threads are being moved or merged, don't worry, it's for a good reason, they either answer or share the same subject, they're in a completely different thread etc.
There have been a lot of threads in the past on the same subject with good replies in each of them, don't you find that even more confusing along with a broken inbuilt search function? Instead, we took them and merged them into one single thread so when a member that wants to find something and it's not lazy will find answers that serve the same subject in one place very easy.

What you might want to keep in mind when linking posts to other members is the fact that not everyone uses the same ' posts per page layout'. These settings can be changed in your User CP.
So linking a whole page, which for you is 174, a member with a different layout of posts per page will be taken to the last page anyway. Take me per example, i use a 50 posts per page layout( PPPL) because i rather scroll than wait for pages to load. So a thread with a default PPP(10 i believe) that has 30 pages, so ~300 replies, a member with the layout set to 50 PPP will only have 6 pages.

A solution to this is too click the post's number and copy that URL.
Using the same thread as above I'll give an example :
    EXAMPLE
To obtain that address i just had to click the post number(on the right of every post), in this case #510.

A personal suggestion that i have for everybody that opens a new thread/subject is to make sure to keep it updated with relevant fixes/helpful posts etc. this team work will lead to better results. I would like to see this one day on NBR.

Finally if you or any other members have suggestions, me and the moderation team are here to listen, either send a PM or post relevant suggestions here:
    Site Suggestions, Help and Announcements

If i missed anything feel free to PM me, i'll be more than happy to answer.

REV, I appreciate the support, OBVIOUSLY IT FELL ON DEAF EARS.

I know how to do searches, advanced searches and logical searches not available here.

THE NEW MEMBERS DON'T KNOW HOW AND NOW THIS HAS BEEN BURIED TOO. THANKS FOR NOTHING.

Thanks for the offer of a PM but I wont go private on a public matter. You missed my point totally.

I agree with REV on this one, i dont agree and putting alot of discussions in a couple of stickies, but i can also see the mods intent on keeping the forum more organized. If anything hopefully this leads to some sort of compromise

Hub, i think you should calm down a little.
The Alienware M15x subforum was not a place for this.

The forum has been running just fine like this for years now. Like i said above, NBR has a Suggestion section where you can express such feelings if you don't want to reach a moderator via PM.
The fact that the search function doesn't reach your expectation is not my or any moderator's fault! We put countless hours in to making sure everything is in its place and that the forum rules are followed.
    If you are able to
what makes you think that others won't?

As everywhere else, new members are encouraged to read the rules and comply to the forum's requirements.
There is a permanent sticky in the main Alienware forum on how to search and reach important threads around here so i believe that new members are not lost.

As Katalin explained, searching using Google returns much better results than the forum's search function.

New threads which are of a generalized nature which can be better served by merging with an existing thread, will always be merged.

If a new thread touches on a topic which we already have a discussion in place but is specific to a given issue and new/important information is being discussed which impacts many users, we will typically let it stand alone as opposed to merging.

This is not a new change and has been in place for quite some time.

If you have any suggestions or comments, send me a PM.

    Thanks.
