Hello!
Finally got my M17x R1 replaced today after a broke CPU fan, motherboard replacement, GPU replacement, and a SSD replacement. Needless to say after making my $3400 purchase (the most expensive thing I've ever bought to date) I really just want to finally get what I pay for and enjoy my tasty AW system.
Well.... what I got wasn't what I ordered. I ordered a black model and what I got was silver! I appreciate other peoples' taste, but for $3400 of my money theres no way in hell im settling for anything other then black, especially not this silver. I don't mean to be picky, but I just can't do it. Also there seems to be A TON of flex on the left side of the keyboard, a fairly large amount actually.
So this brings me to my question. Im going to call up Dell tonight after my classes get out, and ask them for a BLACK R2 model instead (if they are out of black R1's). Do you think they might honor this request? And secondly what specs on the R2 would be the relative equivalent of my current system (I know the CPU is way different), like equal around $3400? Any specs I should stay away from? After reading the entire R1 and M11X owners lounge I just cant do the R2 lounge today lol.
Thanks so much for all of your help, and it is VERY appreciated!

Chances are they will still have R1's. On that note, call them and be polite. Just let them know what you got was not what you ordered. If needed forward them the confirmation email. Let them know you got silver and not black. If your kind, let them know it is interfereing with work and request some sort of consession since you were not counting on the trouble. they will e-mail you return labels and expidite your proper system. They may send the system, and have you mail back the silver once your new system arrives. But if you go with the R2, make sure to request the 820 CPU as that is the next step down from the 920. Just as the Q9000 is the step down from the QX9300. I would, if I were you ask (kindly) if they can upgrade to a QX9300/i920 for your troubles. Be sure to emphasize that you have always had a great experience/service with Dell, and don't want this to turn you off from Dell. If they say no, they say no, but it never hurts to ask right?

Im always extremely polite on the phone, this whole thing has just been very frustrating is all. When you go onto Dell's site it only has the Red listed as available for the Core2 systems, and the guy on the phone confirmed that it would be black when it shipped out, so who knows. Ill find out later.
But as far as the R2 goes, the 820 is a good bet, no issues? What about that Intel 6300 wifi card, that thing any good?
Thanks so much for all the help and advice! -
the N 6300 is definately a good card. A member was selling them in the marketplace and they all sold quick. As far as the 820, it's a great CPU. Dell released a new BIOS (A02) in the last 24 hours and all reports are a go at this station. The flickering issue has been resolved and it's as close to a perfect system as you can come now. Hope it works out for you.
