    Hey everyone,
I received my alienware 14 yesterday and replaced the hdd with a samsung 830 ssd. I followed this guide for a clean install: *GUIDE* Upgrading to an SSD - Alienware Arena Forums
After finishing everything, my screen flickers black and then back to normal every 5 seconds or so. I tried to update all the graphic drivers I could, but it still hasn't fixed the issue. I'm using the A03 BIOS, my intel hd gpu driver for the i7 4700 is Intel HD Graphics 4600 Driver 9.18.10.3165, and the nvidia driver I have for my gtx 765m is 311.48. Any suggestions as to what is causing this flickering screen on a windows 7 clean install? I used the resource disc and windows 7 installation disc that came with my alienware 14. Thanks for any help.

Apparently, you shouldn't use the resource disc to restore all your drivers. Instead, you should download them from Dell directly.

Well, that is not necessarily true about the resource disk. There was a mixup a few years ago where the wrong version of Alienware Command Center was on the DVD and installing it messed up some things. It's better to download the newest drivers provided by Dell, but the resource disk probably has the same thing as what was pre-installed at launch. You can check the files on DVD for version numbers prior to installing to be sure. Being cautious is good, but I don't think there is anything to fear.

At Motoyuki, if you have MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision installed, try removing them.

Did this start to after either the Intel or NVIDIA video drivers were installed? Have you tried uninstalling the video drivers to see if the flickering stops? Press F8 before Windows loads up and see if the problem continues in Safe Mode.

Thanks for the attempted help Mr. Fox, but I caved and just went with alien respawn. Surprised it worked because I made a restore disc from the factory 750gb hdd and installed a 128gb 830 samsung ssd. If I recall correctly, people ran into issues when using respawn from a larger hard drive to a smaller hard drive, but for me it worked flawlessly. It recognized it as a brand new computer and after initial windows set up, everything works fine now. Although I really did want to go with a clean install for my ssd, as many people suggest to do because it gives you the most performance, the alien respawn was so much easier and everything seems to be working fine. No more flickers. I guess I'm trading in full ssd performance for convenience and stability because I'm too noob to do a clean windows 7 install correctly.

I remember that. Was causing people's lighting to die on them, fun times.

For next time OP, try downloading the latest from Intel/NVIDIA's website. My girlfriend's laptop did the same thing on Dell drivers, no idea why.
