Looking for how users felt about there screen choices on the m15x
-
I have to say the 1400 panel (to me) seems a much better idea old boy, ive seen the 1900 version and the non-glare surface doesnt give it very god colours. Aswell as that i would say that the viewing angles are a tad worse too, not that its too much of a concern.
ooh and yes the 1400's got a lower response time(25 vs 30ms)

I saw my friend's xps m1530 with a 1900 screen and I was like...woooow
I wish I had that!
When I ordered mine it was a 300 dollar upgrade, but now its only 150 dollars, and I think its totally worth it!
-
I love my 1440 screen. Enough said.
-
I went with the 1920x1200 resolution and I love it. As far as the colors go, I just add 30% digital vibrance and it looks rather good to me. I just totally love all the space. 1920x1200 is almost twice as big, I think it was 44% larger and the difference from 900 to 1200 is already 25%.
I forget who it was exactly, I believe it was either Chaz, whizzo or exiled that posted the pros and cons of both displays. Just take a look at that and see for yourself which better suits your needs. -
I seen the pro n cons, now i'm just looking for individual users thoughts on there screen choices.
-
I used to have an 1920x1200 screen on my 15" m5550. And I regretted upgrading to this screen from the 1280x800 that I first bought it. You don't need all the extra space for just gaming and word processing and websurfing.
-
Which is why I said choose based on your interests and needs. I do much more than that, so the space is oh so very welcome. And I pretty much don't have to worry about it not being too small for anything for a while.
-
so basically there aren't any noticeable difference on either screen when watchin BD movies?
is the 1900 on the m15x the same screen used in the dell m1530? -

There is another minor point that might be worth considering, 1080p has a default resolution of 1920 x 1080...
With the 1920 x 1200 screen you will get small black lines at the top and bottom but you will view Blu-Ray at an unscaled size. 1440 x 900 will mean the image is scaled down a little is all.
It's not a major thing just though it might be worth considering (",)

Yup, it has to be shrunjk to fit the 1440 x 900 screen, i guess that if it's done using the same size ratio it would be ok, personally i've always gone for 1920 x 1200. My Now dead Dell 8500 inspiron was 15.4" and 1920 x 1200, it was small for icons but very good quality for gaming etc.

I know I'd notice the difference, but I'm always looking for flaws... I see dust and scratches on the film in theatres, as well as the high-iso film grain effect... things people normally miss in theatres (and the film-grain is increasingly being removed digitally in post-production methinks).... so, you could call me an elitist.
Put it this way, if you can't see, mid-film, the 'cigarette burns' for reel changes, or the dust and scratches from the films being run a hundred times, you're probably not going to notice the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 15.4" screen.
IMO, who the heck wants to watch 1080p on a 15" screen anyways? 40" ++ I understand... but seriously, you can still output 1080p from the 1440x900 screen... using HDMI, switch your main monitor to external, and swap the res... NOT HARD.
the 1440 screen will perform better in games, it's brighter, more colours, better viewing angles, takes less power and it's cheaper. where's the down-side? unless you're like me and you need the res for graphic or video editing (or 3d graphics rendering in realtime or something), DON'T GET IT!
if you want it 'cause you're enthusiastic about blu-ray's higher resolutions, go for it. but I wouldn't. it's simply a waste of cash. -
that aside...i like the real estate and matte...but that is just a personal desire/like verses a pro or con. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i dont know much about screens at all, say if i want to hook it up to my 42" lcd 1080p and i get the 1440x900 screen? will it make a difference? i know it seems like a dumb question, but i dont know anything about it
-
the hdmi output off the m15x should be able to run and connect to the 42" screen.
if your 42 does not have an hdmi input you may need an hdmi to dvi adapter. -
i really want the real estate the 1900 offers, but everyone is stating how great the 1440 is so i'm a little stuck. I'm about to spend 4k on a laptop and i want it to be perfect. AW isn't like dell if your unsatified you can return it within 21 days, but AW charges you a 15% fee.
If the AW 1900 is exactly like the dell m1530 screen then i'm sold. -
it becomes a personal issue then...
i think all the posts have given pros and cons for each.
i do not have a reference nor am i able to comment on your comparison with the 1530 from dell.
i have noted that people have said the AW screen is nicer.
again, i prefer more space and matte. so i opted for the 1920x1200...but that was a personal choice, even after all the comments i wafted thru. -
i'm pretty much set on the 1900, but 1 last question before I make my purchase.
Isn't AW supposedly coming out with a new laptop before years end? -
I'm not sure where you heard that but if anything it's a new desktop. Expect a new laptop, maybe middle of next year.
-
alright thank you to everyone's helpful answers and opinions. I'll be getting the 1900
-
Though I made a good argument for the 1440, I own the 1920. I don't regret my purchase as I feel it serves my purposes better than the alternative. however, there are some times that I wish I'd gone for the 1440 instead... as I'm sure there are 1440 owners out there that have times that they wish they'd gotten the 1920... overall it IS a personal preference. I enjoy the matte screen, the brightness is fine to me, and I'm okay with the meager sacrifice in colour and viewing angle... the power issue is also a very small margin of difference, and though accurate, it's not really enough to sway anyone one way or another.
In the end, the computer should be what YOU want. Not what anyone else convinces you to buy. -

Hear Hear (",) I agree with you there, it's ok asking for opinions so long as the end one is yours alone and you get what you will be happy paying for.
I have always liked bigger screen/resolutions purely for gaming when you can "see" more around you. You do struggle with some games though as it takes more graphics power to display the larger resolutions but on the whole worth it.
Just my 2p.
