Haven't seen a thread like this yet. But by all means correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm a potential buyer of an Alienware M18x R2 when I get my University Grant.
Like the rest of ye, I don't want to pay full price for this laptop, or anything for that matter lol.
Anyone here from Ireland ever haggle over the phone? I'd like to know what kind of discounts are given to us. Nevertheless, regardless of where you're from, post your experience with getting money off your Alienware.
Just post where you're from, the item you purchased and the discount (% or $) that you got from either haggling or using a coupon.
As far as I know, posting methods to getting discounts is not allowed in the public forum so if you want to ask someone, PM them.
Happy haggling![]()

if you have a dell credit account you get x time to pay it off and 5% dell cash back plus you can still haggle. The most I have ever heard was a 20% discount in haggling. I think it ranges from 10-20% in how much you can haggle. What is the best way i dont know....just going off of what i have read.

Posting methods of how to get a good price is fine - what isnt permitted is posting up someones email address, especially if they happen to work for Dell, like my rep. That's why I insist on PM's - I wont divulge his details on a public forum but can get you in touch with him via private messaging.
You spotted my thread - http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...aw-system-accessories-please-contribute.html# , its saved lots of people in the UK a great deal of cash so if you do want to explore it further, PM me.
There are certain systems that, currently, I can get great deal on - m17x R4 would be one of 'em..... -
Looking forward to talking to you. The M18x R2 is what I'm looking at but a 17x would be nice if the price is right.

Well, as an example, we could get you a R4 with 3720qm, 8gb 1600mhz ram, 750gb HDD, Win7 HP, Killer Wireless, Blu Ray Drive, 7970m, 1600x900 screen, & 1yr warranty for around £1600gbp (maybe a bit cheaper) - Dell website price around £1930- £1990gbp depending on if you upgrade the screen as per my recommendation below, so saving almost £400gbp
Personally, on the above machine, I would want to upgrade the screen to 1920x1080 for probably around £50 more after discounts.
If you were after an 18x, we could look at getting you a good price on the spec of your choice.
-
After around.... 10 minutes of thinking I reconsidered and thought of the M17x hehe
What I'd be looking for is base config on the Ram and HDD. Thats something I'd do myself. Im half and half with the 3610 and the 3720, its a hard choice. Can either of these be overclocked for that matter? I've seen both 1600x900 & 1920x1080 on a laptop. I don't see a 70 pound difference, especially with the glossy screen. Its too small of a screen to really notice a difference (coming from a fella with 20/20 vision lol)
Thanks for the help by the way. Means a lot that your going out of your way to help an individual. Thanks again mate
Also, on that that same config on the IE site 2139 euro which is 1729 pounds. I thought we were getting ripped off LOL. -

You can slightly OC the cpu via adjusting the BCLK but you wont have access to all OC-ing menus that an extreme cpu offers - maybe someone will mod the Bios to unlock more features but as yet, thats not available. Obviously you can OC the gpu via normal means such as Afterburner or Trixx etc...
I kinda know what you mean about the screen but Blu Ray and Full HD go hand in hand....trust me when I say that for a few quid now, its a wise investment as it would increase the resale of your machine, when you upgrade again. If you went 1600x900, it would also cost you an arm and a leg to upgrade the screen afterwards if you werent happy with it.
Regarding changing the configuration I mentioned, that would have an impact on the discount offered as each part carries its own margin of profit for Dell - basically, the configuration mentioned carries that kind of discount based on its individual components - if you change something, it might not be as good a deal.......no harm in looking at various options though until you are completely happy with your build & price.
Based on the config I mentioned it comes in at 2249 euro, but when you change to base memory and HDD, yep...comes in at 2139 euro.....as above, changing the configuration from the one I posted might affect the level of discount on the system I mentioned.... -
You think you can give me a discount on the Alienware m18x bag pack?
-
Have you already ordered your laptop? If so say to them: "I forgot the bagpack when I was ordering the M18. If I had remembered I would have put money aside for it. I'm left with (half the price of the alienware bag) from that BIG (emphasize BIG) purchase. I'd love to be a returning customer as I love the support service dell offers. I think its fair that I can get the back pack for x amount of money as I paid a lot for the computer itself. Knowing that Dell are fair with their customers would seal the deal on coming back to alienware products for me.
Try that. -

Just so we are clear...
I'm not a Dell rep LOL - If I could give out discounts, it would be Christmas every day here on NBR!! - I do have a very good UK sales rep who does his very best to get good deals for us in the UK.
I dont know if he would dis a standalone accessory but try doing what Shox said.... -
Do you have any Dell rep in US?
-
All US reps are good from what I've heard. When you call try get someone American. They have a larger profit margin to haggle with apparently.

Best place for a US deal is over here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-canada-upgrade-new-system-purchases-46.html#
I think you found that thread though! -
I finally got what sounds like a US rep after 3 requests, they stuck me with someone that sounded midwestern/country. He barely budged, so I said screw it. He just went and ordered for me and I didn't get even to check the email... fortunately it was exactly what I told him.
I sent Allan an email 2 days ago and never heard back. I couldn't wait. -
I got the same circumstance like cuse. Where is Allan going?
-
I just got an Alienware M14xR2:
- Ivy Bridge i7 (lowest processor 3rd gen... can't remember)
- 6GB RAM
- 900p LCD Upgrade
- 2GB Nvidia 650m
List on website was around $1385 I think. I got it for $1233, along with 2-day free shipping and a gift card worth 5% of my purchase (approx $60). So essentially I saved 10% off price, and if you consider the gift card it's actually closer to 15% off.
Overall... I'm pretty damn happy. I told my rep what my price range was ($1200 - $1250). He ended up giving me an initial discount of around $20 or so, then an additional $60, then an additional 3% off for using a Dell card (12 months no interest) and then the 2-day shipping and 5% gift card.
It may not be the best deal in the world, but overall I'm happy
-
I wonder if they are going to have a sale for Father's day?
-
I wouldn't get my hopes up. Dell might do a something on an inspiron at most. It most likely wont hit AW though.
-
PMed you.
