Hello,
My M9750 has started experiencing heat issues. Playing games, such as WoW, cause the GPU temps to reach 90C. Which over time causes the computer to shutdown or freeze. I placed arctic silver 5 on my gpu, and am currently playing in like 2 hour intervals then letting the computer rest. Im still in the 200 hours that it recommends. I have noticed that the temps will only go that high when the power adapter is plugged in, on battery only the temps are like 68-71C and like 58-60C idle. This is due to the powermizer I believe. Now my question is, is there a way to have powermizer on while the adpter is plugged in or someother way I can decrease the heat?
Thanks!

i would just fone aw and get them to send you a replacement/new one

Only problem is the warranty is expired so it would be expensive. Do you mean gpu or power adapter? or computer?
-
First, it has nothing to do with power adapter.
Second, powermizer just decrease the performance of the notebook, which doesn't create as much heat, but that's a way to solve problem.
did you clean the vent?
did you have this heat problem from the beginning?
did you block the vent?
is the fan dying? -
power adapter there only like 90 bucks
-
its because the adapter is giving the computer to much voltage..... he needs a new one -
Is there a way to test if the adapter is giving the computer to much power?
-
Before going out and dropping $90 on a power adapter, I would suggest following what fusionsenses said regarding cleaning the vents and fans. Second, you can try downclocking your GPU with RivaTuner. Third, invest in a cooling pad (they are usually cheaper than $90).

Adapter RARELY has anything to do with GPU temp.
First, there is regulator on the motherboard for the power to go into notebook.
Then, the power goes to the motherboard and controlled by bios/software.
Then, the motherboard bios/software talk to the video card bios/software and ask how much power it wants, and provide power to it.
So, the power doesn't go straight to graphic card (mobile version), it's controlled by several software/bios/regulator.
If the power is too "much", there are other components in the notebook get fried/shutdown before the gpu heat up. Like hard drive. Hard drive is much more sensitive to voltage, if the voltage is not right, it just get shutdown.
This is the normal case. I am not saying it's 100% not caused by power brick. There is always impossible to be possible, but it's not high chance. -
lets try reading next time......................padawan -
the most likely reason for the temp is higher when the power is plugged in is because the gpu is full speed with power plugged in, and the gpu run at lower speed when the power is not plugged in, therefore lower temp. So it's not the power adapter that cause the problem, it's the laptop itself, gpu, fans, vent, etc.. that cause the higher temp.
you are like saying, "I hear rattling of my car when I step on gas paddle, so we must change the gas paddle."
and I say, "When you step on gas paddle and the car go faster, the noise is probably caused by other stuff like the tires, the chassis, the rims, the engine, etc... And most likely it's not caused by the GAS PADDLE"
same idea.
pwned -
lol um u do realize you can change it when its on battery its high performance right? or did you not no that?
pwned -
NO WAY......
j/k, hahaha
Of course you can change profile after you unplug, but by windows' default, it would change to power saving mode. The op didn't say anything about that, so it's safe to assume he didn't mess with it.
Just to let you learn one thing or two, even if he did mess with the windows power profile, IT STILL LOWERS THE GPU SPEED when unplugged.
For example (with power unplugged and force to high performance, and the speed dropped):
The example is my m17, but it's the same in my M1710 with nvidia cards.
Double pwned.
Yes, it's possible to override that as well by going into advance setting or hack. But the op didn't seem to do all that to test.
