So I just got Star Trek on Blu Ray today, and was excited so had to test it out. Popped it in the M17x, opened PowerDVD 8 and hit play. The screen flashed once, switched to windows basic color scheme, then powerdvd was just closed.....
Not sure what hoops I have to jump through here, but I would like this to work
Help please?
And I have played other blu-rays with this laptop with the same software.

Seemed to have figured it out, ran an installer from Alienware in the C:\Dell\Drivers\Cyberlink PowerDVD folder. I named it PowerDVD, will be some random code from dell by default.
Anyways, it worked now. -
Dammit - I was going to make a pithy comment about Star Trek knowing your computer is not advanced enough to truly experience the awesomeness and that the solution would be to upgrade to the far more modern and superior M15X. Now I can't.

if anything its a step down -
Oh, and a fella can't have a bit of fanboy fun now huh. -

OP resolved issue - thread closed.
PowerDVD (as supplied by Dell) is not playing Star Trek on my M17x
