AW has dropped the price of their stock of original m17x's to $1349 with a T9500, 1920x1200 screen, and dual 8700 GTs. Another $100 if you want the keyboard to light. Much more interesting now that it is not the same price as the new version.

they need it to be 9800m gt sli if they want people to buy it. they need to throw the 8700m gt anyway or make a light weight notebook to push them.

now since that are with dell they should just push the 8700m gt in the new xps series.

Geforce 8xxx anything is old now...... I agree with don, they need to put in 9800m's, of course then they price will go way up haha

That being said, you can buy this and upgrade the gpu's yourself, rest of the system isn't bad for that price (did anyone ever try putting 3870's into one of these?)

well they should fit. i would have to look at the ports. it may be like the m1730 where there was one pcb port limiting upgrades. if not then the 3870's should work. the problem is just the crossfire cable.

someone should look into this for sure (worst case scenario is it gets 2 9800m gt's which still are very good)

They should fit in the m15x. Sell it for $750-800 and push them out to make room for a new model.

i think it's already released for the m15x but the price isn't there. however if it was for 750-800 maybe even 1000. it should sell.

1100 gets you a 3870...why get a much worse 8700 for 100 less....you are already buying AW so price is not your main concern lol

At one time, it was an option (so it should work, assuming both models use the same MXM slot type). It would have to be significantly cheaper. Right now, the base m15x is the same price as the base M17 with the same graphics card and a weaker processor, so I can't see it as a big seller. An $800 machine would be competing with lower spec models from other manufacturers, so that could help to move the old stock and make way for a new model.

yeah it's just some people want portablity. which the m17 isn't to some(not me :))

but i guess 800 is right.

notice how the m17 is now 1100 and the 4850 is 500 instead of 400. nice job alienware. :(

One of those advantages of Dell taking over. Drop base price+raise options prices is an old Dell strategy.

they have done this a few times, screen and ram also went up as you will notice, so a loaded system is still about same price as day 1 for the M17 with the exception of the x9100, that is the only "deal" since the model came out haha
