Sometimes when playing Crysis the game just freezes and menu comes up. When i hit the resume tab it starts playing normally again. Do not think it is a downclocking related because GPU temps never got above 83c. Updated my M15x with the latest Bios and otherwise it is working OK. Reloaded game twice but still does it. Has anybody else had that problem and if so how did you correct it? Thanks in advance.

That's strange, I never had a problem like that. Have you tried updating the game to the latest version? (1.21)

It does not sound like an overheating problem to me.
Have you installed the latest patches for the game? -
Thought 1.21 was an update more geared for multiplayer operation. But i will give it a try.
-
It can't hurt
-
Driver related problem?
-
I'm running Crysis 1.21 and Especially on the Reckoning level, my framrate drops to 2-3 fps with 100% CPU (or near it)... when the cpu drops below something like 95% the system runs smooth again (at least 25-30fps) but by that point i'm so frustrated with playing the game that when the framerate drops again, i just want to throw the computer. (i obviously don't)
I have all the updates, even Vista SP1. I was considering figuring out how to make it run in DX9 to see if that would solve the problem, but I really don't think it would help, considering I get the same result while playing in 1280x720 (with triple-c's pack on low) or in 800x600 (all low settings)... in fact, I'd say that playing 1280x720 with triple-c's pack actually seems a bit better for the problem.
no idea what the heck the problem could be... looking through the autoexec.cfg file there's an option for multi-cpus, but it doesn't seem to utilize more than one.
gah. frustrated. -
That's also weird; never had that problem
-
it's run fine until now, the previous level where you have to take over for the pilot was a bit of a slow-down, there was a distinct, but constant framerate drop... but that's okay, it was constant, and constantly above 15 fps. playable for me. but 2-3 isn't playable for anyone.
i think it has something to do with the physics calculations when the enemy at the end puts down it's gigantic feet. sucks up cpu usage and the whole system lags because of it. in riva tuner, the cpu is still going at a full 2.5ghz and utilization is usually balanced somewhere around 100% of one core (eg. 80% on one, 20% on the other) but never exceeds the theoretical limit of a single 2.5ghz cpu.
blah, i don't think i'll ever find a fix to this one, i'll just have to play it till i actually finish the level at 2 fps and hope the next level isn't as bad. -
yeah, parts with fog in Crysis kill the 8800, and so it's not surprising that the level where you are the pilot has low FPS (you're in these foggy clouds)
-
Sounds like more of a driver or game related problem as opposed to something wrong with the M15X. Disappointed the M15X won't play the game better at least on my machine.
-
The stock m15x drivers are very bad with Crysis and underperform with the game. Unfortunately, using any other driver leads to permanent downclocking (however that's not Alienware's fault, apparently, as Clevo 8800M users also have similar problems when trying other drivers)
-
i'm not surprised at all with the flying level having low FPS... there's a lot of stuff in line-of-sight that's sucking up GPU, plus the effects of the engines on trees and stuff (from other flying HVACs or whatever they're called), etc. but on reckoning, there's really just a lot of fire and explosions... there's not that much ado about the level... no reasons why it should go so slowly as that. even on the lowest res/detail.
also, i'm hoping nVidia comes out with a driver for SP1 soon. I can't wait to see the excess performance with new drivers for the system. -
I think your CPU is downclocking. The same happens to me in WoW (mad FPS drop).
-
Kaiserphoenix Notebook Evangelist
wait so on top of the gpu downclock, there exists a CPU downclock?????
-
-
cant you turn off cpu downclocking in the bios or by setting the power options in windows to always onn or performance mode? for vista put it on performance mode for power options
-
-
I think mine goes to 88 when playing WoW, but my UI is rediculously CPU intensive.
-
What do you use to measure CPU temp?
-
it's constant on JUST THAT LEVEL, driving me CRAZY -
for the sake of information, here's Crysis playing windowed (800x600) with rivatuner and thermofan running (thermofan for CPU temps and fan speeds, rivatuner for everything else)
before the mark on Rivatuner, i'm playing one of the previous levels "Exodus", after the mark i've loaded and playing "Reckoning"
the small spikes of FPS are happening at the same time as the main enemy from the level using it's main weapon (the freeze ray thinger). thats the only time it works decently with playable framerates. the rest of the time, it's stomping around and lagging like hell. -
I know it's not the optimal solution, but have you tried changing the settings to all low? I mean, obviously it's not a fix, but it could at least let you finish the level...
-
yep. in fact, that was on 800x600 with triple c's "low"
but i've done the 800x600 fullscreen, all low. and motion blur off. the charts look the same. -
DX9 mode? I dunno, at this point I'm just guessing. I had nothing at all like you're having, which makes it difficult for me to help.
(DX9 mode is enabled by going into the Games list on the right side of the Start menu and right-clicking Crysis in the list -- there will be an option to "PlayDX9") -
regardless, after adding -dx9 to the command line, it ran fine again. no idea what the real hold up was. i'm just gonna go finish the game. -
Oh wow, so DX9 mode did fix it?
-
crappy ending. I suppose they're planning a sequel? -

Damn! 3 parts!
Where'd ya hear that ?
-
I'm currently borrowing a friends version of the game, so I'll probably wait to buy it till all three come out as a pack. -
I'm surprised they're making this into a trilogy. Crytek's (two) games have never been known for their riveting storylines... the games themselves are just "demos" for their game engines. That's why I'm even more surprised that Ubisoft is making a Far Cry 2 (independent of Crytek) -- I mean, what story is there to continue/follow up on with a sequel?
I'll admit though, the Crysis story is a lot better than the Far Cry one, but nonetheless...
