Yesterday, after a long wait, I finally got my alienware at home! I started it, completed the installation of Visa, installed video codecs (k-lite pack x64) and Age of Empires 3 (TAD).

When I tried to watch some movies in high resolution, I was disappointed with the picture quality. The colors were messed up, the shade of yellow was very stressed, and I didn´t like the video quality itself, too.

I started the AOE3, the graphic quality was ok, the game ran smooth, but the colors were horrible, the blue looked purple, yellow hue predominated.

First, I checked the power cables - were plugged in, also checked if the Radeon HD 4870 was enabled. I used the control Fn + F7 (if I remember correctly) to change the GPU, restarted a few times and made sure that the Radeon was enabled.

Then I tried to change the color controls in the catalyst, without success. After it, I downloaded and installed the radeon drive in dell's website. That did not work, too. Could someone help me to solve the problem?

I am at work now, but when you get home I'll try to use the AlienRespawn to restore the system, then update the driver of the GPU, then re-install the video codecs. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any thoughts on something else I could do?

    My specs:

    Alienware M17x Space Black, Intel Core2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz 12MB Cache 1066MHz FSB, 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 1066MHz, ATI GDDR5 Mobility Radeon HD 4870 1GB, LCD WUXGA 17´´ 1920 x 1200, running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bits SP1.

You only got a single Mobility Radeon HD, but whent for a Core2Extreme Quad? ????????? BTW They're GDDR3, not GDDR5.

Anyway. Sounds like you might have a bad LCD or bad video card or a loose LCD connection. Contact Alienware tech support but if they offer to send out a tech, I would personally refuse and demand a new machine instead. You just got it.

Thanks for the reply, Nickbarbs. Well, just in case, I will reinstall Vista, the GPU driver and the k-lite codecs ... one last attempt before contacting Dell.

Nothing's wrong with it, I'm just surprised you would spring for the quad extreme and not get the extra 4870.

    The 4870's are GDDR3 not GDDR5 unfortunately.
