    Hey everybody,

I just got a new 8800 gtx replacement from Alienware, and things are not so good.

After waiting for 2 months, I finally received the card and a new square mounting bracket yesterday. I immediately put some MX2 paste on it and switched it on.
Whats happening now is that the Internal VGA temp constantly shows up as 0C, while the VGA skin shows around 60-65C. Riva and HWMonitor show the current temp properly. The fan for the GPU, however, is constantly hovering around the 2500 mark, with a max of 2600 rpm. Also, when I hit the stealth mode button, the GPU temp RISES instead of decreasing!!
I spoke to Alienware immediately, and they advised me to change the BIOS to x36. Now they didn't have the file on their server, so they asked me to go to "another place" to get the BIOS ;) He even sent me a link to NBR!!!
Anyway, I flashed the BIOS, and I'm still having the same problem.

They suggested sending the laptop back, but right now thats not an option for me. I have spent nearly 200 Eur in getting the card out of Customs, and awaiting a refund from Alienware.
I have read through this, and there is no solution yet: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=4639538

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Konig

what was wrong with your first GPU? i have an 8800 right now and it's starting to overheat. I can't figure out why either. i was going to buy a new 8800m for $400 but found out that i can get a new 3870 for $200. I bought a 3870 ati card because it doesn't have overheating issues and performance is the similar. IMO the 8800m gtx cards were junk to begin with. it is overpriced and the quality build is horrible compared to the 9800m. your best bet is to send it back to them, or try to get a 9800m(which is the same card but better build) or an ati 3870.

i just baked my 8800m then took it outside and froze it for 10mins. i live in wisconsin so it gets pretty cold. my card works fine but temps touch 110C and i start to lose FPS just like you do. i think it's just the way our laptops are. i bought a new fan and it's still the same. Fan is always quiet. i can't get speedfan to even work. so i guess i'll wait till my 3870 gets here then install and see if it reaches 100C.

my m15x is doing the same thing as yours too konig. the fan doesn't cool off the GPU at all. i have to use a cooling pad to cool it, my fan speed never changes. if you find a fix let me know, or if i find something i'll let you know.

i installed the 3870 and the fan works now. at 100C the fan goes on full power until the temp reaches 70C. so it was just the 8800 gtx card. no performance loss when card is at high temps either.

You have the frist Gen m15x which came with a Intergraded GPU as well as MXM gpu. So when you go to stealth mode you are switch to the intergraded gpu.
