Hey everybody!
Well I haven't posted here in a while.. I have been to busy enjoying my m17x that FINALLY came in August.
Everything worked as it should at first then I continually got Vista blue screens which was easily fixed by a system restore. This happened while I was on the road where I also realized that the Belkin Anywhere Adapter that I ordered with my system is a real pile. I'm talking about the laptop car charger if you haven't figured that out already. It comes with two outlets and worked fine at first. Then my girlfriend tried to plug her laptop in as well and it began making this loud constant beep sound. I think it was a red overload light that comes on or something, I'm to lazy to go check right now. But anyways it never really worked the same after that. I thought it might be the fuse so I took the fuse cover off only to find out either there's some trick to the **** thing or the fuse is impossible to remove! So now my laptop can only charge while it is closed and not in use otherwise this annoying beep will drive everyone in the car crazy. Anyone else having the same problems with this thing? If there a way to fix it or a recommendation to a more reliable one?
Now back to my problem with my system. This thing keeps shutting off while I'm running games. I'm pretty sure it's an overheating issue but it shouldn't be happening because i make sure the front and back vents of the laptop are always free of clutter or anything that might block it. From what I understand it uses the bottom of the laptop to vent as well so you will be much better off on a flat table like surface. Well that sucks because I bought a laptop to play games in bed, on the couch, in the car ect. It runs significantly longer on a table but when it starts to get hot I start to notice games running much slower than when I started. I think it's great that the laptop shuts down before my parts start melting but either way I doubt this can by healthy for my machine. Is this happening to anyone else?
Now on to the touchpad and keyboard.. After about three weeks my left touchpad button stopped making sounds and became really hard to press. Now it sounds about twice as loud as the left side and is still harder to push.. What the hell.. I usually use a mouse but it would be nice to have a touchpad that didn't suck. The keyboard is great even with the little flex that doesn't affect anything in my opinion. I did have a problem when I removed my F7 button to clean a piece of something fell behind it. The regular keys are easily removed and put back in but this F7 button proved to be much more difficult. I ended up having to take out the two little white plastic pieces and figure out how they were supposed to go back together and fit them into the keyboard and after about a half hour of frustration wala! It was back to normal... So for future reference be careful when removing them..
That's all thanks!
Oh, my specs...

The Belkin AC Anywhere is a 300W adapter. From some of the images I've seen around the web, it's does not have more than one outlet on it. IMHO, if you didn't overload the cabling by trying to run the AC Anywhere at near full load on a cigarette lighter, then you probably overloaded it by just simply having too much wattage.
I was in one of the largest trucks I've ever been in, and I have a 400W Power inverter with me. a friend and I, with the help of a network cable, decide to play some games. well, I had to run on integrated graphics, otherwise the connect that we were using wouldn't provide enough voltage. we also had to periodically shut down so we wouldn't kill this DIESEL truck's poor battery.
that way we never got stranded.
yes, a 300W power inverter will power EITHER the m15x or the m17x (m15x runs about 150ish watts with full power usage, but can spike up to 175W+), but connect anything more than a cellphone charger to the same unit, and you're risking an overload.
Luckily, most power inverters have protection so your connected equipment doesn't get screwed. but the way Belkin has been going, I wouldn't be surprised if it did some damage... though, the rest of your problems seem more oriented towards unrelated issues.
bottom line, don't try to run two laptops at the same time off a 300W inverter, plugged into the CIGARETTE LIGHTER! if you want to do that, you'll have to wire the inverter straight into the battery with some serious cables... -
It's just frustrating to own a 4,200 gaming machine and only be able to play a game for a half hour before the machine slows down so much that it's not enjoyable or shuts itself off.. Just wondering if this is only happening on my machine or with others... anyone else own one of these experiencing the same issue?

stop complaininglet theme handle it...
for the record, My M17X run's fine..even with high ambient temps.. -
I did PM him... Nothing back yet.. Not complaining just looking for help/answers.. That's what forums are for after all right?
-
Just an update.. Still have not received any message or help back from Alienware James.. guess i shouldn't be surprised?
Anyways I purchased a laptop chill mat and things work great now.. I no longer get the overheating shutdowns... It sucks that I have to set my m17x on top of this thing all the time but it's worth it. -
they don't, but we do

Ahljay,
The temps on my M17X run higher than i like when game playing. But using a cooler helped. -
be careful with these so called alienware reps... don't give your info and let some get free tech support... just saying because i send "alienware james" my info and still.. nothing back.. I'm thinking someone is just using my info for free tech support now.. just something to consider..

btw, both James and Armando have the custom user title for vendor reps, and i don't think Chaz gives those out without background checks.
