Yuck, unfortunately I am discovering some further problems. My touchpad doesn't work at all, and my keyboard is very lagged, if I take my time and slowly press and type each key it works but if I type like normal it comes out a jarbled mess. I took the case off again and reseated all of the cables but it's the exact same thing. I guess I have to call warranty tech support, but I hope they don't give me any trouble.

I've done that, but I'm going to do it again I think. It has to be that, I don't think I damaged anything. I might need to take the magnesium plate off and check where they connect to the motherboard.

Your touchpad is on a different location and cable then your keyboard. I found the Touch pad cable more difficult to connect because it's just a very small thing, make sure it's in all the way! (There are some red markings on it yust like mine had, I guess). And make sure the big Keyboard cable is correctly connected and the brown switch is popped back in the close situation again.

This is a bummer man... Hope you can fix it!

Well it only looks like a cable/connector problem. So if there is something broken it will probably be a cable. The keyboard is giving response so it looks like an allignment problem, (I remember taking the time for the broad Keyboard cable, it wouldn't just pop in). I dunno about the touchpad though I think it is not in far enough.

    Crossing my fingers for Jubal!

just letting you know if the little brown tab pops out it can be poped back in ... pretty easy so its extremely hard to break one of those

Fixed it! I had to take it down to the motherboard but the connector for the touchpad had popped out on the motherboard side. As soon as I removed the magnesium cover I saw the cable loose and unconnected. I reseated it, put everything back, and my touchpad works again! In addition, the keyboard is fixed as well. I don't know if it was lagging because of the touchpad or whether reseating the connectors did it. Personally, I don't care, it's fixed!

The only trouble I have left is some kind of unknown device driver error, and that should be easy enough to figure out after lunch. Software problems I can handle!

    Hi Jubal,

Ive just fitted a X9100 into my M17 which look a damn site easier to do than on the M17X. 2 days before I received the processor I thought I would open up my notebook and take out the processor re-applying thermal paste as I go, just to get some experience and practice. I was very surprised to see the very large amount of paste that had been used by the makers of the notebook and found it was thich like plasticine. I followed advice from other members here and guides on the internet on how to spread thermal paste so I proceeded to spread a very nice thin, even layer of paste. I was happy initially until I saw my temps and after monitoring them for a few hours had noticed that they had actually risen by about 5-10c.
I remembered the guide saying that different types of thermal paste require different thickness of paste depending on what material you use, so sure enough when my processor arrived yesterday I used noticeably more paste and even replaced a thermal pad with paste......wow!! temps are the best Ive ever seen them now and are even better today(around high 30s to 40s) just idling. I suspect the curing time factor is important as well.

I used thermaltake TG2 and Im happy with the results. I suspect the different processor has had something to do with the results though.

well done on a good job btw.

ps, actually dont change your avatar now, Im getting used to it and at least we know its you without reading your name..lol
