10 more days to go until i can open up and check out my m15x...in the meanwhile i was wandering if there is anything that current users do to protect the laptop from exterior/physical damage.

Is there any kind of transparent cover that one could use on the m15x to protect the chassis and the paint?

What I do for most of my gadgets is take cling wrap and cover it..but I do not know if this will be safe for the m15x..coz in some parts obviously there will be conduction of heat through the chassis, which may melt the plastic wrap.

    Any suggestions?

Just get a notebook sleeve and a backpack/messenger bag for travel. Had mine almost 6 months now, and it's still flawless. Guess it's all on the owner. If you're careful with your stuff, forget about it.

ya i got the orion backpack..you know the oil from human skin is also quite corrosive and tends to make the paint fade away..so i wanted something to go over the chassis or wrapped around it..

honestly, if you have something for travel, the highest risk time is setup and take-down... and I haven't seen too many people mess up that procedure.

as for the corrosive hand grease, this paint is hard. It's stuff I'd expect to see on a car.

You're more likely to chip the paint from impacts than you are to have it wear away.

:D I wanted to change the "title" underneath my name to "The Flammer", but I don't seem to know how to. I think it's such a cute title... Flammer boy. (I still have to learn what a flammer is though!). :D

Don't get any cases with a zipper. It chips the paint off of the m15x or practically any notebook. One of the members on on the forum ruined one of the sides of their m15x by putting it in a case with a zipper.

What about those cases which have zippers but have got piping on the inside to protect the laptop against zipper wear ? Do those work at least ?
Just checking 'cause I'm still on the lookout for a bag/sleeve/case :)
Sorry I couldn't be of help Yemo.. Haven't actually heard of anyone with a custom-fit plastic covering for this Alien (You're talking about something like lamination right ?)

When you stick it in the case and it presses against the zipper, that can really wear it out over time.

are we talking just for the unit itself when not in use, or for carry, portability, and use at the same time? (i.e. like a cell phone condom?)

well i found a site that does that you wanted something like an invisible shield that goes on it and protects it all correct?

well this company makes some for alienware but atm they only make it for the m9700 i think you need to request it for them to make it for you and they will probably ask you for measurements and stuff for your laptop and you can do that by clicking on create a custom order. you have to pay $8 for the custom design and then pay around $50 dollars for it and shipping and everything. hope this helps

    EDIT:

found a video for it aswell

i dunno about at &t but i do know the iphone 3g isnt cheaper

yes the iphone 3g is cheaper but you are getting it with a plan. if you count the cost of the plan and the iphone 3g with the cost of the plan with the original iphone you are looking to pay $240 more for the iphone 3g. its basically a scam to make the iphone 3g look cheaper. they know most consumers wont bother counting the cost over 2 years.

what exiled said is true and well that is over 2 years you will pay more and well to be honest you were gonna pay alot to have an iphone or any pda phone..i payed $300 for my blackberry and i payed more per month then when i had my iphone so personally i think youll be spending it either way and to you Yemo AT&T is good in major cities and well its the only one you can choose for the iphone... but i would choose ATT over T mobile and Verizon any day T mobile has one of the worst cell services (imo) and with ATT you get 3G in MANY more places they have a much wider coverage of 3G T mobile has it in maybe 3 cities max. well as it is with alot of cell services it matters where you are... if your in a major city then your all good and you can check ATT coverage both 3G and EDGE on their website...
