You might as well just get one 8800M GTX as its more powerful than Dual 8700M GT.

What is the price difference with the 8800 instead?

The dual 8700s are very good and should run your games with a decent if not high FPS.

I have an 8600 and I can run Crisis and Age of Conan quite well, I just set certain things on lower settings.

    Also, I'm not overclocked.

I'm jealous of you. The m17x is hawt.

They don't offer single 8800m, can only upgrade to Dual 8800m for just 700$ more

Ouch... they force you to get dual 8800M even if you dont want it... kinda sucks.

Contact them to see if you can just get a single 8800M card (way better than SLI 8700M)... since it would make it more for your money.

I think the M1730 also forces the same dual videocard options.

Have you considered a Clevo D901C, its more bang for the buck, and you can choose to just a single 8800M if you want.

Very nice setup! With 4GB and an SLI setup, you can expect great performance across the board with the latest games.

It's a good set-up, means you'll have a gaming machine that will be able to play the best games for a few years i'll wager...

Wish i could do the same but, as Alienware seem to be ignoring the Uk at the moment, guess we'll have to wait?

That basicly what I am going to do is upgrade over time. Starting with the Ram, Gpu and then cpu. The only thing I wish was there was a skull cap.

WOW, that long to even get it? way too much , I'd have to say..the m17x should've been out ages ago, or maybe AW had too many issues with the m15x to fix :D

It's not too bad really, they're not mass produced like Dell's are so a month is about what i'd expect.

I think your right though, the m15x has delayed the m17x being released, imagine the heat load it will have, and if it then overheated.....meltdown (",)

Hi, Great computer... but with all due respect, I fail to see how you can justify paying nearly 2,000$ more than I did for my m1730 for more or less the exact same computer, with the difference of 2.5ghz to 2.8ghz.

I got 8800GTX SLI, 1900x1200 17inch TFT, 2.5ghz Core2Duo, 4gb RAM, 160x2 Raid0 320gb Array, 8x DVDRW for 1,600£ new from dell.co.uk 2 year warranty... I find it to be the same as this computer really but 2k difference? I'm glad I didn't wait... grats anyway but I hope its really worth it.. M1730 has funny lights too :)

Good point there... It's really not justified so much money for a system that is not the most advanced out there. What does the M17x brings that is cutting edge technology?
The M15x had the 8800GTX and (appart from the thousands of problems) it did make a difference. The m17x does not bring anything new at all. Appart from a very over the top price.

I'm in no way attacking people that want the computer; by all means if you like it go for it, but I find it to be way too expensive and its about time Alienware really steps up and tells us what exactly we get for that huge sum of money. They should have STANDARD 4 year support, not this 1 year support that matches the dell XPS line which is much much cheaper.

    I don't get it.

I know that Dell computers and many others are a lot cheaper and they are really good. I have 2 Dell computers right now, but I always wanted an Alienware computer but could never afford it, and now finally I got a chance to purchase an Alienware. And you get an amazing looking laptop for the price :)

Wrong, you get an amazing laptop for double the price.
Everyone else is right, unless you can throw in an extra 1.5K-2 for the exact same specs,(heck, dell CC and accidental warranties totally destroyes AW's one)go right ahead.

actually, configuring the 1730 and the m17x comes out pretty similar with similar specs. Where do you get the $2k discrepancy?
