Thinking of purchasing a used m15x from a local person with an Intel T7500, 8700m GT, 120GB HD, 2GB Ram, 1440 x 900 resolution, that does not have the original box, but has the disks, etc.
1. What are some things to check for ??
2. What is a good price to offer if everything checks out ??
-
Chk to see if warranty can transferred. If not don't buy.
-
AW warranties do not transfer.
-
they do not as greg said....
and with the issues the m15x has had to date, i would stay away from it personally.
even though i am gonna get a m15x (one of these days), i would not buy one used with all the issues it has currently....
-
stay away- don't even get a new one, ppl will try to sell it as it's crap
-
m15x w/ no warranty is asking for trouble.
-
Since m15x are only recent buying one would only mean buying a piece a junk off someone who had their warranty denied due to over clocking or not complying with warranty.
The m15x is a piece of Hyundai do not get a used one not even a new one. You will be buying someone elses problems.
DO NOT DO IT.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Wow thanks everyone. Is 'Everyone' having problems with their AW m15x or do we just see more of them here as 99% of the people that have problems search the internet and look for solutions in forums like this, etc. ??
Are the *major* problems that this laptop experiencing happening with ALL users ?? Or just with certain components, such as certain CPU's or GPU's, etc. ??
If I were to purchase this laptop and get it cheap enough to make it worth my while, I would actually upgrade it with a Intel X9000 that I currentlyhave for sale in another thread, and eventually upgrade the GPU to the 8800M GTX or the 9800M GTX when it comes out. Again thanks for any info. God Bless -
lol stay away as stated above
-
LOL I guess that is my que not to buy itLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Um, I'd agree that buying someone else's m15x isn't the best idea, but mines just fine after a month. Most of us that have gotten' new m15x's have yet to have a major issue with them. With proper care, I intend on being one of the few that will come back in a couple of months with a solid review of the m15x.
I've noticed the bulk of the problems being with the early m15x users. Tyronne is different, the place he got it from (Austin Computers or something?) left it on public display for other people to screw around with. I have faith in the latest batch of m15x's, as mine is one of them. -
-
to the OP: big red letters are not a que or clue, they are just annoying...
that said, i think tyronne got burnt on a hyundai and an m15x at the same time and he has serious issues against them both
. now, with that said, buying a used one as everyone has said - NO - stay away.
but to prop up what ennea said...many of the units in recent history have been above previous units for issues that have been corrected. (not saying all of them have been trouble free, but limited issues reported as compared to previous units.) -

To the OP, do you know the person your buying from? If so, It might workout as you would be able to use them to fulfill the warranty when your m15x goes bad.
but as everyone before my post mentioned, you would be better off to just not do it. Especially because of the warranty, but also because the m15x clearly is a poor built machine, and that alone is keeping me from spending an extra $1000 on purchasing one. -
Lets watch the language guys...

If you're buying it from a friend you actually know, it might not be so bad. And seriously dudes, what's the primary reason for coming to this forum? For help. Like I said in some thread before, if I didn't have issues installing the Creative Xtreme Express Card, I wouldn't even be here now ( although don't chew me out yet, I love this place now
). I'm 99% positive there's a huge batch of m15x users out there who haven't experienced a major, major problem and have no reason to to toot their own horn about it here. Seriously, if everyone were to come on NBR and post every single positive review about their m15x, we'd totally get tired of it. People enjoying an expensive laptop? How many of you actually care about that? The first thing that goes through your mind is, "F*** it's expensive, you better be enjoying it." Not to mention, how many of you that are so quick to judging the m15x, actually get one straight from Alienware?
tl;dr - If people don't have a problem, they don't really have a reason to post.
Don't take this the wrong way and say that I'm denying any of the m15x's shortcomings either. Yes, the build isn't perfect. I honestly think it's decent though. Maybe because I have a newer m15x? Don't know. But almost all my friends, being a college student, have laptops. All different kinds and I really don't find the build quality to be that comparitively poor. I really just think all the nightmare m15x threads here are skewing our perspective on this machine. They have very good reason to post about it, and it's great to know what to watch out for, but it's not great judging the m15x based solely on it's shortcomings. Which is what I see people doing often.
I'm so very satisfied with my m15x. -
I'll do it to...
DON'T DO IT
You're going to regret it when you want ANYTHING from AW. Never buy a used AW system.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I'm in the same boat as Ennea, got my m15x a month ago and am still very satisfied with it now.
I would also advise against buying a used one. With all the issues that have occurred with the m15x, the chance of you getting a defective unit is very high. Think about it, why would the seller get rid of a perfectly functioning m15x at such a low price? As everyone have also told you, Alienware's warranty is non transferable. -
Mine is completely fine, however, seeing it has a t7500 means it is one of the launch ones and we have seen many people on the forum (12 I think) from launch whose screen hinges have completely broken...so having a launch one without a warranty is unadvisable. Since this one only has the 8700m gt, you can find better, higher quality laptops that are 15.4 inch nowadays (with montevina and the 9600m gt).

if you must buy a used AW...at least just buy the refurb from AW. At least they will come with warranty.
-
I agree with Most of the people. Do not Buy it.
-
Just wondering what do you all think about any of these aftermarket warranties for a used m15x, such as SquareTrade, etc. ??? Like to hear people's opinion. God Bless
-
Usually aftermarket warranties suck ***. A lot of reviews have been negative on many aftermarket warranties. For example...

Just read how much people LOVED it!!!... -
The god bless part is kind of creepy seeing as how you're about to purchase a product supposedly conceived of by aliens.
That being said. if you buy it used and something goes wrong... you'll need ALL THE BLESSINGS THAT THE GODS HAVE TO OFFER! -
get a m860tu/np8660 from Clevo/sager with newer hardware and a much more powerfull 9800mGT
;
if u care about battery life so much in the m15x then just get 2 batterys and swap them in under a min -
The smart bay battery is great too.
-
GET THE M15X
Ignore what these people are saying, I've had mine about 1 month now and not a single problem. -
Yeah, so far it's cha, Oceanus, IIRR and I who are very pleased with our m15x's and all got them about the same time. Each of us having it for about a month now.
-
-
id have to agree that it is not much more powerfull in overall terms, but i read in other posings on NBR that the 9800 has higher shading, and a few other things right off i can not think of that allow it to be better in certain areas, but still along par with the 8800....
not certain 100%, but i remember reading this. -
yeah but the OP wanted to buy the m15x with the 8700m-gt, so the 9800m-gt would definitely be more powerful.
