Hello all, Sorry if this has possibly been asked before, Search did not reveal any similar posts. Anyways, I'm wondering if it would be wise to purchase an 8GB card to use in the M11X I ordered for temporary files. I ask because I plan to use it with a replacement 80GB SSD and figure the less read write to that drive the better. Anyone have any idea of the performance of any machine set up like this? (having all temporary files on a SD card or such?)

    Thanks!

I would say it would slow your system as memory card access is much slower than your SSD

if your ssd has trim than you should not worry about wear and tear.

It should not slow the system down much as it is only temp files not programs. I did this with my Corsair P128 but have all my temp files, temporary internet files etc. on a 7200 RPM drive. Also buy a class 6 SDHC. Just note the SD cards do not mount flush with the form factor. The card will stick out a little.

    A little is an understatement.

About half the card is poking out of the side.

I agree with you. :) I was transferring some of my new m11x photos today for my friends :D and I was like "umm.... why is it stuck half-way", then I hear the windows sound of plugging new hardware and then I figured, oh its supposed to be that way.

A little bit strange, SD card isn't THAT big, plus Dell already had a nice SD mechanism on m1330. It goes all the way in and if you want it out, just press it in more and the spring or something kicks it out. I don't see why we have to put up with sticking here. :) Really minor thing but still ... :p

Well, I work tomorrow morning so I will have time to employee price check some class 6 SD cards, If they are not too expensive, Ill buy one and give it a shot regardless of it sticking way out on the side. At least for the sake of knowledge.

Now, if only Dell would process, charge, and ship faster... Order a SSD from newegg, Ships within 25 minutes of the order, Dell, 3 days and still pending...

if you have 4gb or more of memory set up a ramdrive at around 1gb in size. OCZ forums have how-to guides on ssd optimization which apply to all ssd.
