Last night, I decided to check my temps real quick while playing L4D. I opened up OCCT just to see what it was getting. The temps all seems fine (55-65 C) but I noticed that the CPU was sitting stable at a little less than 2.0

I'm a little confused because when I ran OCCT after OC'ing, it was pretty stable at 2.4 ghz. Does anyone know whats going on?

Either you changed the power setting or woke your computer from sleep. That said, it's unlikely you'd notice a difference while playing a game.

You may have put it into power saver by accident.

    Stealth mode
    speed step
power saver mode can all downclock it

When you are idle and have OCCT running, is the CPU frequency current/overclock supposed to be stable? Mine read 2.410 but then drop to 1927 and +20.5% to -3.6% respectively. They keep fluctuating

speedstep will cause it to downclock whenever possible for lower energy consumption and less heat.

Is there a way to shut off speedstep in the BIOS? If there is, I would do it. Speedstep can cause a lot of havoc with overclocked systems. Learned that the hard way with my desktop.

You aren't "idle" and have OCCT running at the same time.

You can force your processor to 100% fulltime with the power settings, but it will pointlessly increase temps and energy consumption. Speedstep is quick and does the job for you.

Sorry, I meant idle with occt open JUST to see the cpu/gpu temps and overclock.
