interesting place to put your first post.

okay so i've been doing some experiments with RMclock and what i've found out and have, also, read in different threads is that RMclock doesn't add the .5 to certain multipliers. For example:
with my bios flashed and using the 12.5x multiplier, it allows me to hit 3.33 ghz. but with RMclock the highest multiplier available was 12. i checked cpu-z and was showing that my clock was at about 3.1 ghz. Flipfire has a nice thread about underclocking and includes alot of benefits from it and pretty much the only downside to this are the chances of BSODs (blue screen of deaths). many of you may already know what this is all about but for those who don't, underclocking is very beneficial (10-20degC lower temps, etc), i'd say safe, and would prefer it to those who aren't concerned with the 12.5x multiplier with montevina chips.
BUT, then again there is a program called IDA that tricks RMclock into recognizing a 13x multiplier, but really just enables the 12.5x multiplier. but there are some drawbacks in using that program. But for those interested here are the links:
Flipfire's Undervolting Guide
and somewhere in the thread also talks more about IDA. -
you put underclocking in there. did you mean undervolting?
-
yea.. The only downfall to RMClock..no halfs. I ran into that when my x9100 was in my 7811FX. But, I didn't lose much. Now, the good news I just got is that my system running Win7 allows for me to use 13.5 in BIOS running @ 3.59 GHz - Vista BSODs at boot.
ERRRR.. as soon as I hit post reply the system locked and BSODd. Eh.. anyhow, thought I was in luckwill toy with it again later..
-
yea good luck with that bro
oh and yea axman, i meant undervolting. -
yea, so some how 3dmark vantage decided to work again. lol these computer software and hardware seem like little kids. you never when they're gonna come out to play.
-
looking good shznittle
-
yea vantage, doesn't work again...sigh i got her to work a couple times then she said good bye again

E-wrecked, You get half vid's with rightmark, you just need to use a CPU which can handle half VID's. All of my AMD's do half VID's without any problems. It must be a flaw with either the intel FSB/multi or the software not able to control it.

Not vids.. But multipliers. I've edited the reg to enable all vids and multipliers but .5 multipliers don't work with an intel chip and rmclock.
-
okay so i've been running 3dmark vantage on different drivers and still yet to beat my scores from your bored drivers, E-wrecked. i think i'm going to run your drivers when i get the 28 bios on this thing.
-
Well. That's just cause I kick a$$
kiddin.. But really, I'm glad they are working out for you.

anyone here knows how to OC QX9300 with HP 8730W?
-
you simply cant unless the bios allows it or you use a software oc.. like setfsb but that requires the pll and to be started everytime windows starts and is not as reliable as a bios oc imo
-
i guess here's no 'hidden' or engineer bios function for 8730W huh.
-
You can try crystalcpuid.. it lets you set the multiplier from windows. Dont know if it still works for qx9300 though. Try it and tell us.
-
ok .. just tried it.. no luck.

yeah hp locked it completely.
-
-
i'm thinking that my laptop has been factory undervolted already. the defaults VID are super low.

sorry for not reponding. this thread just died out some how. but you have a setting in your bios the is locked in causing you voltage to be so low. dffs is the initials for it.
you can't overclock unless you use a program called setfsb and find the pll for your mobo which you would have to take apart and look.
hp doesn't want you doing anything that will make components heat up and fail so it's going to hard to overclock it. -
dffs? huh? so i guess HP has already undervolted the CPU and I shouldn't bother to try undervolting anymore? I tried looking in the bios, it doesnt have anything remotely relating to CPU

yeah it wont say it. it is dynamic fsb frequnet setting. it is for cooling purposes and lower our cpu to 1.050-1.200. which yours should be at correct. mines is disabled so mines is 1.163-1.315 or 325
