Hey all,
So I currently have a t9600 in my m17x along with dual 280's. I've been playing crysis warhead with decent frames with everything set to very high. My question is whether a qx9300 would help boost frame rate? I guess I used crysis as an example because its demanding.
I have read through the other topics on the qx9300, and I still cant tell whether or not its worth the upgrade? Would it have a pretty decent impact on over all video-gaming and multitasking?
Also, anyone have a link to a do it yourself LCD swap? I ordered a 1920x1200 today and I will need a guide to swap it myself.
thank you in advance

The Qx9300 will provide almost 0 benefit in Crysis.. So if your buying it for that then dont .. Some games do take advantage of Quadcores like GTA4 but the bulk still do not .. Im a Quadcore only guy myself but i have my specific reasons for using them IE encoding or games i know that will take advantage of them..
If you google does crysis take advantage of Quadcores you will find they did implement some code for quads but it was to make the game run abit smoother by offseting things to the extra cores but not at all for speed... -
is the chip worth upgrading to down the road though? Do you think the full power of a quad will be utilized as time progresses? What makes the i7 chip so great now if a quad is even being taxed?
edit: thanks for the responses btw guys -
On a desktop at least. when i upgraded my CPU from core2duo 2.8 to core2quad 3.0, i saw a noticeable jump in performance. I was able to set graphics slightly higher and have a better frame rate than i did before. -
actualy you would see an increase due to the fact that the 2 more core handle the background task leaving your game eat the only 2 it can use completly with no sharing but the increase would be barely noticeable
how ever if you are an overclocker the unlocked multi of the qx would allow you to reach greater oc and thus better frame rate -

Crysis is completely GPU bound.. CPU is having very little influence on performance..
I ran all the benchmarks with Dual cores and Quads, in the end it was a frame or 2 difference...
A Quadcore will make the game run smoother though overall that much is certain but not what many hope to see from such an upgrade..
Some games when going from Dual to Quad can give you a ton more performance like 20fps + or more ... This is not the case with Crysis ..
Also we are talking laptops and not desktops.. The laptop Quadcores behave differently then desktop Quads because the old laptop Quads are just
2 dual cores stuck together and there are performance differences for sure.. -
2fps that's a almost 10% on a game that run around 25-27 fps on a laptop....
-
I said 1-2 fps so if you equate that to 10% then so be it
..
I never tell people not to get a Quad but the OP was looking for some decent improvement in Crysis from buying a Quadcore and he is not going to find it in Crysis ... -
I guess I was using crysis as an example. I am more wondering whether I should eventually pick up a qx9300 or just live with the t9600 till i need a new computer in 4 years. Will programs start using quads more efficiently?
thanks -
Yeah more and more programs are and will use Quads.. Should you buy one is really up to you though.. If it were me then yes as i refuse to run a dual core anymore but in the end its something you will have to decide for yourself..
