So i want to create a recovery file on my 1tb external HD using alienrespawn program on my m11x. But when i select the "create recovery media" option i can pick either disks or usb flash drive. my external HD doesn't show up when i click the usb flash drive option (because technically i guess its not a flash drive). Does this mean i can't create a recovery media using my external HD? worst comes to worst i can use my external disk drive and stick in a bunch of disks but id rather use the external hdd

bumping because now it wont even let me burn it to dvd's.. i get the message "please install your burning software with BluRay support or contact dell support" which is odd because im only trying to burn to dvd's not blurays...

Not sure what burning software you are referring to but i fixed it so i could at least make recovery CD's

All that needed to be done was to update the program (to v9.4.48). Hopefully this info helps people that run into the same problem in the future

As for the inability to to put the recovery files onto my external HD, i have no idea how to fix this so i guess CD's will have to do

I made recovery discs from Alienware respawn without any problems, on 2 DVDs, make sure you picked DVD and not blue-ray / Flash before you start the process

I have M17x with DVD writer/reader not Blue-ray reader, dont know wither it makes a different (it shouldnt)
