I have complete care warranty and have a couple of questions about the process?

For example, if the laptop have to be replace for any accidental issue (let's say a drop and crack my screen and other parts). How does it work?

Do they send the tech to me and try to replace what part they can? And if the tech can't repair it.) Do I send it my unit and then they send me a replacement or they send me the replacement first before I send it to them?

The reason I am asking is I am thinking of replacing replacing my HDD and RAM with 8GB (probably selling the parts or using it in my other systems)

If I have to send my unit it to be replace, can I take these parts out and send in the laptop without the RAM or HDD?

As I understand the warranty is on the parts installed from the factory at time of build. What was installed under your tag number. To send in for repair or replacement you would need the original parts. I have mine stored in the Alienware box for safe keeping.

normally if they do send a replacement system, they will send it first then gave you a shipping label to return the old one.

also a good idea to keep your oem parts for warranty purposes.

Any time I have had to send a laptop in I always kept the hard drive.

and I tell them I am doing so, because I need the data on the drive.

Absolutely DO NOT sell the factory hardware until your warranty expires as Dell is very clear on this if a replacement is made they want the original PC back.

The rep in the returns divsion told me to keep my HDD's as they don't reuse them for possibility of transfering personal data. I have been told by 2 different reps that the HDD's never get reused and they usually let you keep them. But always ask in a replacement situation, if you just keep them they'll prob bill ya for it.

    hi everyone,

thanks for the info. I guess I will be keeping my original hdd and RAM when the time comes to upgrade them.

I have the 1 year complete care , but now regret not purchasing comeplete care for 3 years.

Overall, I am very happy with the performance of this little beast, yesterday i called Dell and purchase an additional 2 year NBD extended warranty from 2011 to 2013. In 2 year, it will go to my 8 year old :D

    thanks again

Honestly I'd never send back the hardrive if it had any possibility of personal data on it, even so much as a registration (name, address, etc).

As others have said: Keep the OEM parts in case you need to send in the laptop for a replacement.
-if you send it in for repair only, then you take out your hard drive and keep it because most times they will erase the data on it during the repair process.
-In my case I was issued a refund and I was NOT allowed to keep my hard drives. I had dual 128GB SSD's. They said I had to send them in and instructed me to do a secure erase. (Though the very nature of SSD leads me to believe the data was still there)

Can you purchase Complete Care after you bought one with Basic Warranty?

How much for say 1 year?

    I'm in US.

    Thanks!

I was quoted that it would cost ~350US dollars per year after the first year but before the 1yr warranty runs out. Now that is the premium w/ "Your tech team" included.

Given the "quality" of their "tech teams", they should be paying us for fixing the laptops.

Well that makes adding 3-4 years complete care when building the system is a much much better choice.
