Ok so I bought my M17 with a 160gig HDD, but now I'm down to 88 gigs and can likely see myself running out of room or put the computer to a point where it begins to slow down.

Now I have two questions, the first being what is a good replacement HDD? I'm looking for speed an reliability of course so anything above 300gigs and 7200rpm works.

My second question is, do All M17's come with a second bay? and if so can you install a second HDD there? It doesn't have to be raid or anything, just wondering if I can so I don't have to use carbon copy :)

    thanks

You cannot upgrade your hdd or ram as there is only one bay which is soldered to the notebook. There is a second bay but theres a small nuclear device in it. If you try to upgrade your hdd or ram it will detonate.

Yes the M17 does have another HDD bay, SeaGate and Western Digital produce some very reliable harddrives, check out newegg for notebook hard drives and see whats best for you.
Personally I will be using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136280 along with the stock 160gb.

Can I use the small Nuclear device on it to complete my quest for world domination? lol.

Btw on your sig you might want to change the p8600 number the p8600 runs at 2.4 :)

I used just about all hds and ssds in this laptop and now im down to using two of the above mentioned WD scorpios 320gb 7200rpm in raid0 and im very satisfied with them. The speed is acceptable and the space plentiful (600gb :D).
If you dont do too many tasks that fragment your data you can also get a vertex or intel x25-m for os and a wd scorpio for storage, if your wallet is deep enough (any of those two ssds will give you a boost in loading times). Look at my post (bottom of the page) and youll see the comparison for ssd raid0 with two low class ssds and a raid0 with my current scorpios (i didnt post the intel and vertex results but theyrealmost identical (a bit slower) to the ssd raid0). The choice is up to you now.
