    Hey all,

I am planning on buying an Alienware m11x. The sound option states inbuilt 5.1 Audio. Now how does that work, is there any way I will be able to output 5.1 audio from this laptop w/o a USB sound card or does the laptop actually have 5 tiny speakers and a subwoofer. I was wondering because I am a little picky about my sound and that part was bothering me since I don't see the outputs for the 5.1 audio just the 2 headet/mic output.

    Thank you.

I believe I read that you can turn the second headphone jack into an audio out for the extra speakers:

    2 Audio Out Connectors
Audio In / Microphone Jack (retaskable for 5.1 audio)
    Two Built-In Front Speakers

So, this means that you should be able to use the second audio jack for 5.1 (in addition to the first)

Hmm this is similar to a question I have here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=463781

Have you worked out how to actually retask the additional outputs to facilitate analog 5.1 sound? i.e. be able to plug the different speakers (F, R, Center, Sub) into the 3 outputs.
