If you was to OC the 8700M GT could it be able to get anywhere near the 8800M GTX? I know there are many physical limits to this.. by how much could of OC this card safely.. I need to consider my options lol!!

Also is this even possible on the 8700M GT, I know its is on the 8800M GTX

The 8800M GTX is an incredibly fast mobile card, and I don't think it would be possible to equal it in speed, using an overclocked 8700M GT. The 8800M GTX has other advantages aswell, such as the large bandwidth provided by the 256-bit memory bus.

i don't think you can push the 8700 even close to the 8800 performance wise, simply because the 8800 has more processors and shaders and whatnot (and i'm not talking one or two more, i'm talking like two or three times as many).

Im just really worried about these M15x overheating and cracking issues and UBER speed isn't that important to me I guess a 8700M GT OC'd would do me but yeah the 256-bit would we great...

I’ve been experimenting with the overclock but can’t seem to get to the bottom of a stable OC while still squeezing out the full potential. Anyone here has any suggestions?

    my suggestion, DON'T DO IT!

especially to the GPU. the coolers are already working overtime to keep everything at a reasonable temp. plus the 8800 has a smaller die size, so it can be faster, with higher clock speeds, and more bandwidth/shaders, and bit-depth on the busses, without adding to the overall heat produced.

the 8600M GT is about the only card able to be OC'd because the cooler is able to handle the 8700, and thus the 8600, at lower clock speeds (and same die size), would produce less heat.

but the 8600 only can address 256MB of memory, so you sacrifice somewhere right?

I thought about this. But its too risky and complicated. I think the 8700 is a fine card, a good compromise. My biggest reason for not getting the 8800 was $$ and somewhat heat concerns

Well are people saying that if I had a 8700M GT that the worries about over heating or melting wouldn't be such a big problem?

Also Otaku how happy are you with your GPU? Do you wish you spent the extra on the 8800M GT?

The 8700gt and the 8800gtx are both very good cards. The 8800gtx, being faster, by alot. My suggestion is to go with 1gb of ram, then upgrade it to 4gb yourself. Then bump up to a 8800gtx which will be pretty much at a little extra cost.

But thats my two coppers ;p.

Yeah I'm going to do that anyways because I'm selling my mac and I bought a 2GB Ram upgrade for it but the slots only support 1GB max, so just going to buy 2GB more ram
