Hey, I was nearly about to buy the new M17x just yesterday. However on searching the net about Alienware I was horror struck about the complaints about the company, about hardware problems, supports problems etc. The complaints I've read are the only thing holding me back, really want to buy the laptop, should I buy it, what do you guys think???

I had the same reservation in the past, reason i never bought an alienware product, but remember the new M17x is produced by dell now just in the alienware name.

some of the past laptops have had issues ... the M17 and M17x are SOLID systems

Dell handles the systems and will send techs out to your house to fix it and DEll is rated #1 in warranty and support

not anymore unless he has issue with dell too. Dell makes the new M17x thus you get Dell's #1 rated warrenty

lol yea we can see you hate AW

DELL PROVIDES SUPPORT NOT AW so even for those older customers its different now. ;)

also my M17 was amazing and customer support was great ;)

well i can't tell you to order the laptop that decision is up to you alone, but if you buy the new M17x you are buying from dell, thus getting their #1 rated Warrenty.

    But

There is still always a chance you can get a lemon laptop and have issues with it from any manufacture, the difference here is the warrenty is top notch, a tech can be dispatch to your house or location, if laptop needs to be completely replaced you don't have to send the original one back until you recieve the new one. it's win win in that situation.

I believe dell only supports the new M17x, the old models are still supported by alienware and covered by the alienware warrenty.

I never had an alienware till I ordered my m17x, but dell's service is great. My old dell had a failed hard drive and a failed dvd drive. (Both from power surges in lightning storms, I have a surge protector, I don't know exactly what happened). They sent me new ones for free, no questions asked.

I've never claimed to hate Alienware. It's an untrue statement, but even if it weren't, how would it make my opinion any less relevant than your positive affections for them?

I never set out on a mission to be exasperated with this company but it happened. The m9750 is still my favorite notebook that I've owned. I want Alienware to do well because I like their computers, it's just unfortunate that the service and support team have been so incompetent in my own experience. If that is all a thing of the past because Dell is supporting everything from the m17x on out, that's great, but then perhaps the OP should be directed to the Dell forums to ask their opinion.

Also, I would say it is way premature to say the m17x is a SOLID machine. I'm optimistic that it is, but there has not been enough time to know its reliability yet.

    Hi darthmaniac,

I too had these same reservations as you are having after googling Alienware and finding all these really bad horror stories all over the internet. And it bothers me that a US boutique brand has "made in China" on the bottom of its laptops but Im glad I decided to go against this and purchase the M17...its a really nice machine and I suspect the M17X is even better. Its the nature of computing and electronics in general that they will be problems but Im happy and many others on this forum are as well with their machines. I would never buy the M15X though.
These Machines bring so much happiness to our lives as they are beautiful to look at and are so powerful, as well as performing gaming-wise like no other machine.

    Good luck.

Hey everyone, so what do you guys say should I buy the M17x or a laptop from another company, Sager??? I checked the specs for both the M17x and the Sager NP9850, they seem to be the same, except for the three HDDs in Sager, which I really don't care about since you can buy an external HDD. So why then are many people saying that the NP9850 is the better laptop??? I'm planning to buy the M17x maxed out( around $6124) will this beat the NP9850???

I wish I could make a final reccomendation but I wish for the love of god one of the new 9850 owners would tell his BIOS OC'ing abilities. If you would be maxing out either machine the final determining factor is going to who has better overclocking, and we just don't know yet as the rumors of the final production model of the 9850 have limited OC'ing are just rumors still. Anyway, this isn't Alienware anymore and the bad baggage it once had, it's DELL and DELL is very reputable in customer service and warranties.

Advantages of the M17x ; smaller, aluminum finish, better battery life.
Advantages of the 9850 ; 3 HDD bays, cheaper

other then the the differences in the design, size, the HDD bays, the battery and the pricing it's virtually the same laptop. See if you can get one of the new NP9850 owners to dish out some details on whether the BIOS supports the same (or better?) amount of OC'ing abilities the M17x has and go from there.

Also for extreme gaming should I get the Intel core 2 quad or Core 2 Extreme( Quad)?

Post this question here darth http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=387505&page=35
I can already answer your question on the GPU's, if your maxing out and getting a QX9300 it simply is the best GPU you can get for gaming.

I don't have time to do all the math to see if you have a discount already in there lol, but you can see if you qualify for a student/epp discount which tends to be taken off on the spot unless you have a rep that's down on the details. Also free next day shipping with premium buyers as youself is usually standard, just have to ask for it politely unless you ordered over the internet which I don't reccomend due to speed of processing. Congrats BTW :)
