I currently have a ST9320421ASG 320G/7200RPM/16M hard disk on my M17, and I am about to upgrade my storage with another one.

However, I can only find ST9320421AS disks with the same specs on local retailers' websites.

My question is: are they the same disks?

Same model #, same drive. If you're trying to go Raid, you need two of the same drive, so one more of those would do it.
If you're looking to "upgrade" to one drive of larger size then you need to find the Seagate Momentus 500GB 7200 RPM Drive like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148374, but really any 2.5" SATA drive will work.
You could also just install a second drive and not put it in raid for additional storage.
