Hi NBR, looking at possibly buying a used M15x that's definitely still within manufacturer's warranty period. I wasn't sure what the policy is of transferring ownership and warranty. I've done a Dell ownership transfer online (although never got confirmation email). I understand if I were to buy used I wouldn't get the cool name tag (btw can those be remade?) but what about servicing it if I needed something fixed or replaced? Will I still be able to get the same service as if I purchased it? Thanks ahead of time.

Yes but I would call them to make sure the warranty transfer is done properly.

I am sort of in the same position as the OP - bought the m17x of ebay and still has 8 months of warranty.

Trying to do the warranty transfer and now he won't get back to me at all ffs!

Dell been in contact with me and asked for my express service code...

I hope i cant sort this out because i need that warranty in order to order the free HDD caddy.

In other words if the seller won' respond to me is there no way to transfer the warranty even if i have proof of sale?

I did not realize you needed consent from the original purchaser to transfer ownership? If so I'll email the seller and see if this is something he's willing to work with me on.

you dont actually...ive done this many times. if for some reason you can not get a hold of them or consent you simply call dell but YOU MUST have the original owner info to do this and it must match exactly to what they have on file

I'm not sure if you need consent but the seller needs to tell you the name on the warranty - my seller did not get back to me so i entered his name on the form you have to fill out on dells site. Turns out that name was incorrect and i need the correct name in order to continue. Dell e-mailed me to tell me the name was incorrect:

right.. well when i bought a 1730 off ebay the person that shipped it was not the person who it was warranted through so i had to battle to get the correct info then once i did i handled it myself through dell

Cool, when you say battle how did you actually get the correct info? Just repetitive nagging/e-mailing? I've got a feeling the guy registered the m17x in a company name...
