Why do I need help asap? I want to watch last weeks topgear on HD through my TV :p.

Basically I have windows 7 installed, clean install, not many drivers installed. I have the OSD but it doesn't work properly. First of all, I can't boot into my external gpu, the OSD doesnt work, nor findvikas's script. How do I go about this? I tried the batterys out, hold power button (dunno if long enough though - 10s).

Oh and on a side note, My hinge is almost broken - again.

yeah same problem...apparently the NVIDIA 8800m GTX has issues with windows 7 according to google + a lot of other people having the same issue. For me, I get a blue screen on start up if I have the newest drivers installed for the 8800m GTX...If I uninstall the driver, then there's no problem. (With the exception of now having a paperweight in place of a gaming laptop) I see in your signature that you have a driver upgrade to 9800gt? What do you mean by that?

I don't think it comes down to the video card, because the coding in the OSD is the same. I have 8700 and works fine. There might be some weird conflict between application that are not logically related. (Adobe Master collection does not install if you have Google Desktop??) Anyway, what I would suggest is trying the GPU switch combination in Safe Mode (naturally you would have to start the OSD app first). If this doesn't do the trick try to delete the OSD, and install and run it in safe mode. That worked... at least for me.

Edit: @ Flakked Been there. Basically you don't have to stay with no drivers. Instead go to laptopvideo2go and start experimenting by downloading the latest driver. If it doesn't work try the previous one and so on. The safest bet would be to download driver 182.xx but it's quite old also right now I'm running 7 with Vista driver... so it's pretty much guesswork what will run or not.

I had a feeling that other drivers might be the best bet...on route to laptopvideo2go now, thanks ISD. I'll try the 182.xx driver first, and then the old vista 32 driver which worked fine before I reformated to Windows 7. I'll post back here if I find a decent working one for anyone else who's having the same problem.

The latest Nvidia driver causes me the same blue screen on boot issue so best avoid it. As to the OSD issue have you tried installing it in Vista mode and ensuring that its set to run as admin? That worked for me

Yeah, blue screen with the new one is quite annoying. Anyways, so as of now I'm using an ancient vista 32 bit nvidia driver (I think its dated to like 2007 ) on Windows 7 32 bit and it works fine. I'm going to wait until I get back to my university to try some more recent drivers, and again post if I find something better. In the mean time, if anyone else is using/knows of working drivers for this issue, then feel free to post it! :D

for the record, my laptop is an Alienware M15x, 8800m GTX, T9300 CPU dual 2.5, and currently running windows 7 32 bit stable with the very old driver.

OK. I'm uploading my drivers right now. Like I said I have a 32 Bit Windows 7 and the video card is 8700M. These drivers work perfectly for my configuration. These drivers are not from the laptop video site. They are official drivers from NVIDIA. The driver stamp is ‎Thursday, ‎June ‎04, ‎2009 1:50:43 AM. Frankly, I don't think the different video cards will pose a problem since they are both supported by the driver.

I will post the link as soon as it completes uploading.

ISD just hijacked my thread... :p

But seriously, I can't boot into my 8800gtx at all. It won't let me swap over...
