If I buy a laptop with the cheapest HDD from Alienware, then later I add my own SSD, would I have to purchase a copy of Windows or is the windows clean install software included with the laptop purchase from Dell?

And the SSD that Dell offers with the M18X, I can't seem to gather any info about on the site.

The answer is no, you don't have to purchase another licence.
The laptop comes with a OEM licence(tied to the motherboard), so all you have to do is either use the OS DVD that comes with the system to reinstall, either use a clean Microsoft image of the same Windows version as your licence and simply activate using the code on the COA sticker (on the bottom of the laptop) or you can image your stock HDD and restore on the SSD.
