I'm leaving for vacation in less than a month and it is of great importance that I have my laptop by the beginning of august, so much so that I'm willing to order the quickship edition of the m17x, which would ship 2 days, rather than the week (which turns into a month from what I've read) for a custom built alienware. With a $2500~ budget, I've been able to consider a bunch of computers, from Alienware to the Dell XPS, and I even checked out Sager (though xoticpc is sold out and taking pre-orders, which wouldn't arrive till eary august). While I've been able to customize each one, I end up with very similar specs within 100-200 dollars of each other, which is no problem.
Anyway, does anyone have an recent experiences with the quickship edition, or any alienware laptop for that matter that they could share? Does any one laptop ship quicker than the other, or should I worry about the week or so estimated shipping date turning into a month?

Don't buy the M17x quickship, it is not worth it at all since you are only getting dual 8700GT's which honestly is not worth the pain. Just deal with not having your laptop for vacation because you will regret paying more for SLi 8700GT's when a single 8800GTX will beat them.
A note to everyone: SLi is a HUGE pain on notebooks and I would stay away from it whenever possible. With that said, get the Sager NP5796.
Here is the reason why.
"The 5793 will be replaced by the NEW NP5796 with the latest Intel chipset, processor technology, DDR3/1066MHz memory added ESATA and HDMI Ports, beginning the week of July 14th."
All of that is very good and ESATA is great for using an external hard drive.

That laptop will BLOW your M17x away.
Addition: Compare it to the quickship M17x
Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz : Slower
1920x1200 Screen : Higher res
Dual 8700GTs : Slower
160GB 7200RPM : Quicker
2GB Ram : Slower
Non-illuminated keyboard : Losing the point of buying the M17x
3yr warranty : Same
Price = $2900 : Yea that's not good.
If you buy the M17x you are paying a lot more for a slower computer and you don't even get all of the lights. -
I'm not worried about bringing my laptop on vacation with me. If I wanted to sit on the computer, I would just sit at home. What I'm worried about is what will happen to the laptop if they ship it early august after I've left and nobody will be back for at least 2 weeks. The sager you listed above is estimated to ship in early august (I remember reading that somewhere), meaning it will arrive after I've left. What does fedex/UPS do with the delivery if I'm not home for each of their attempts to deliver it?
-
@Liquid - I actually do not know the answer to that. What you could do is just order the laptop when you get back from vacation or try to order it while you are on vacation.
Don't buy a slower more expensive computer just to get it earlier. Honestly it is not worth it and you will be very dissapointed with the performance considering my M9750 could probably keep up and come ahead of your M17x quickship in some cases. -
Seems that I can fall fedex with my tracking# and ask them to hold onto the package until I come and pick it up from their warehouse (which is pretty close to me). Guess I will be ordering that Sager!
Thanks for the help stone. -

and the order was placed on the 9th and i am on phase 6 atm and the way it is going it should ship by tuesday or wednesday. this was the non quick ship edition anf for some reason when i tried ordering the quickship edition that was coming for early august i didnt get it. but anyways i think alienware has learnt its lesson from the m15x and i guess started ordering more of everything...well ill let you know how that goes but the week deadline is looking pretty good and the latest that i am going to laptop is next friday. I would suggest not going with the quickship because i think they were out of stock thats why the shipping is so much later. -

there are lots and lots of people that have ordered on the first day of release and they are still waiting. so far weve only seen 3 people that have received their 17x and am still waiting for reviews. take no notice of the phase page as it is totally inaccurate and this has been confirmed by AW
appart from that, good luck on your new purchase. -

@Liquid - No problem man. I like it when I'm able to effectively communicate with people here and help them out. Since you had a budget of around $2400, it made no sense to get the M17x because you would be missing out on a lot of the key reasons to buy that notebook. With that said, the Sager will offer a lot more power for a lesser price. Just make sure to get the xoticpc warranty.
Also: Thanks for being so easy to talk to here and not just having your mind dead set on AW because now you are getting a computer that is at least 10 - 20% faster (in 3dmark) than the M17x you had spec'd. -

just a little update phase 8 w00t w00t just happendI think alienware has somewhat learnt his lesson from m15x so the tuesday or wednesday ship date is looking pretty good i hope so.
