-
man i tried to negotiate for the nebula red with my rep but she could not do it for discount since her supervisor would kill her.
Unfortunately i end up with silver chasis. -
So no one has gotten their Red m17x yet? lol
-
nope, ill see if i can use my dell gift card on the special red color nebula after i get my m17x
-
My EDD is 8/11. If I get the first one I will post pics for you
-
-
yea good point.
-
Guess the best idea would be to order it in red and if you don't like it order the black or silver kit and then sell the red chassis (that's what I'm gonna do at least)
-
my epp woudl sell me the red but i was trying to ask her to get me the red chassis as well. But she said no i have to buy it for $99.
-
I meant Gabe tried to purchase just the red chassis components alone. He already has a black M17x and they wouldn't sell it to him. They offered the silver and black only.
I suppose if someone has a red M17x they could order it maybe. I guess they are trying to keep it somewhat special edition. lol
On the plus side the price wasn't bad for the chassis kits. I believe it was like $220 or so. -
you can order chassis kit from dell?
-
It's basically just another part. Like the palmrest assembly is a part.
Just have to get the part numbers for the chassis and lid. Contact gabe via pm - he already called and was quoted. -
Hi,
Yes, you can order the silver and black chassis kits. However, it is not recommended if you - A: Want to keep your warranty, or B: Aren't comfortable disassembling the computer. I believe I posted the part numbers on one of the threads. You might have to do a search to find it. Also, when the red chassis kit becomes available, I'll be contacted.
Edit:
Panel Sets (All Panels Included):
Black Panel Set

Silver Panel Set

Changing the chassis will not void your warranty.
With that said, any damage caused during installation will not be covered (unless you have complete care which usually covers any damage accidentally caused by repairs amongst other things).
Just wanted to clarify.... -
Hi Sleey0,
Changing the chassis will void the warranty because it requires major disassembly of the computer. Any and all disassembly to a computer, unless it's a CRU (customer replaceable unit), will in fact void the warranty. Dell stands behind their DSP (Dell Service Providers), and if you choose to disassemble the computer without the help, aid, or instruction from a DSP, you're warranty will void.
Thanks,
Gabe -
I have worked with Failure Analysis technicians with Dell's XPS LOB team and have gone over the warranties with them (seems like with a fine comb lol).
Dell does not void your warranty for system disassembly no matter how large the tear down might be.
I have had full system motherboards sent to me thru my contact and all I had to do was agree that any system damage caused would not be covered. That is all they will ask you to agree to (basically covering Dell from any mistakes you make).
This probably the number one reason I still buy Dell systems over other competitor's. I cannot find another OEM that will allow you to replace major components and not void your warranty.
Believe me, I wouldn't do it if I knew for a fact that it does indeed void your warranty.
Now, would Dell prefer the customer to use a Service Provider? Absolutely. -
-
I still want the red lid so when the new ATI cards come out I can change the lid to red when running them and when I put the Nvidia's in I can put my black lid on.
-
when they come down in price im anodizing it to my color
-
They should did it "user interchangeable"... Would be awesome

Hi Sleey0,
I'm very happy that you have managed to keep your warranty in tact. However, disassembling a computer does constitute as a void of warranty. Dell does not warranty work that is not performed by them or a trained provider. If everyone was simply allowed to take appart their computers without fear of voiding their warranty, Dell would be replaceing a lot of damaged parts that was at no fault of their own. Dell cannot keep a warranty in tact if they don't know the state of a machine and whether or not a trained person disassembled it. Would a car dealership warrant a repair that you performed on your own car????? With that said, be very careful about computer disassembly. Drives, memory, and PCI cards are always CRU (Customer Repalceable Unit). Anything else is a FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) and has to be installed by a trained technician.
Thanks,

You missed the part where I said any damage caused by the installation of a part will not be covered. This must be agreed upon by the CSR and end-user when parts are to be overnighted.
It would be very easy for Dell to tell what was damaged by the end-user.
As far as the car warranty analogy, well that is entirely different and really can't be compared (I understand what you are trying to get at however).
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this matter.
Anyone reading this please do not be afraid to ask Dell for the part for YOU to install. I can link you some scary stuff that has happened to one of our senior members in these forums that a 3rd party Service Provider did to her system.
Seriously, if you have any technical skills or have put together a desktop please try and do your own repairs. Of course if you are unsure about this than by all means have the contracted company come out and do it.
Just wanted to let everyone here know that I have been a loyal Dell customer for over 10 years and have had parts send to me overnight. It's one of the main reasons I still recommend Dell to others as well as keep coming back to them myself.
