Same poll, this time with who posted added to it. Please delete old thread.

For owners of the new M17x's, please vote to how pleased you are with your purchase so far.

The only reason I chose worse, is because with the money I spent on the laptop, I was really expecting an awesome LCD screen and responsive controls. I wish there was something between about what I expected and worse than I expected. Its not that bad, its just a bit annoying. Everything else is great though.

I would definitely add a category "Wish it were a bit better but good nonetheless". :)

Best laptop ever for me, though I might be easier to please than most. Never had such a high resolution display, or such a good graphics card. I'm very happy. :)

so far these results are higher then i expected. i guess it makes sense that people with negative experience are more likely to post here then people who are just enjoying it and having a good time.

those of you who posted that its the best notebook ever:
    what OS are you running?
do you notice massive light bleeding at the bottom of the screen?
how are the volume buttons operating?

not trying to bring you guys down i just want to get a feel for if you are having any issues that other people are reporting

lol @ cashflow2 not having a m17x and still voting as it being the worst hes ever owned, he even said in the old thread he was mistaken voting in it. Seriously, I know the only mod this section has is Chaz and he's not around that much but I hope a banhammer comes soon after seeing his other recent useless posts.

Agreed, that dude has been wasting forum space with useless posts, trolling and rhetoric, only a matter of time before he is gonzo, I've seen some of his other useless posts before, but after seeing his vote when I know he doesn't have the M17x it got me pretty pissed.

unfortunately wasting more forum space complaining about people like him doesnt help. send the PM to chaz or a mod and just ignore it as well as you can.

now to make this post worthwhile:

can any of the people who voted positively for this computer post the specifics of their experience and address my questions from earlier on this page?

edit: here are the questions -

those of you who posted that its the best notebook ever:
    what OS are you running?
do you notice massive light bleeding at the bottom of the screen?
how are the volume buttons operating?

    Cheers.

You're right it doesn't help, but that's just what we do sometimes to vent.. it happens, most have done it at some point.. and you replying to it is about as useless as you say my post was.

You've already asked this question, when someone gets around to answering you they will. Posting the same thing twice doesn't make this particular post anymore worth while than it already isn't.

edit: i reserve the right to take a nap before i get to work on the computer

From what I read out of that thread the new M17x stock scored around 14400 nothing too special, but with some GPU and CPU overclocking it should score much higher.

can every one quit arguing ?

@ fox trot the M17x is better in the following:
    Epeen size
    Gaming
Anything CPU intensive( unless you flashed BIOS's)
    battery life
    Illuminated keyboard
    ports
    design
    thermal design
    etc

    M17x = :cool:

    3dmark 06 is POINTLESS

specially if you compare a card specially designed for 3dmark 06 vs a Nvidia Card

    EDIT it scored 15,707 .......

I don't recall saying there was any point to it, someone asked about scores, I posted what I remembered seeing one guy say he got from another thread, and it was in the mid to high 14000's guess he re-ran 3dmark 06 and got a higher score or these scores were from two entirely different people.

On a side note, the guy managed to score just over 10k in Vantage with dual 280's, can't remember if it was with or without Physx enabled.

i wasn't attacking you ..... i just hear people who want to know 3dmark 06 scores, while it does provide a common ground. Its more CPU intensive now-a-days...

the 3870's can score 17k .... but they were specially made to bench higher,,, ATI cards always do. While Nvidia always game better (90% true)

3870's in Xfire only score like 6k in vantage and the 280's score 11k... but they will score alot less then 3870's in 3dmark 06. Simple as that

Sorry if you though i was Flaming you ... just bringing up valid points and venting ....

Running the installed Vista, haven't had any trouble with it.

Definitely light bleed at the bottom of the screen, but I wouldn't call it massive as it hasn't really bothered me much. (Though for the high price of the laptop, that shouldn't be there!) It's easiest to notice if the bottom of the screen is one color, then you can really see the gradient it makes. When I'm playing a game or watching a movie with colors all over the place, I can hardly notice it at all. (Though I might just not have the best eyes.)

I've just now noticed the volume buttons don't seem to work very well! But my headphones have a volume control, so I always set the volume to maximum on the computer and control it with my headphones; I hadn't even tried using the laptop buttons before.

Okay, after a little experimenting, I seem to be able to get the volume buttons to work. For some reason, tapping them doesn't seem to do anything at all. But if I put my finger above the bar of touch controls and slide my finger downward so that my finger is half on the button and half above, and let it rest there until the volume reaches the desired level, it seems to be working every time. Really weird, but at least it's working here. Just have to get used to giving them the magic touch (though I doubt I'll be using them much anyways.)

Well I don't have the laptop yet but.. a few things I love about it, are the FSB options in the BIOS that's some really sweet s**t there, not to mention this is probably the most beautiful laptop I have ever seen, and I love the fact it can be covered by Complete Care, those are some major things for me, the rest I'll have to see when I get it.

if the caddy is all you care about you can easily get alienware tech support to send you one once you get your service tag...just tell them they didnt put it there and you have a huge hold in your chassis where it belongs.

that is what i did and they didnt even ask questions.

to be honest if time isn't a huge issue for your friend (ie if he has some patience) i would say wait a few weeks to see what comes out of the "issues" that have arisen. they may be critical to the systems success or they may just blow over as small pet peeves of some of the hardcore initial user group.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. Comes up with an error that says: " Unable to set colors, it could be due to hardware problem. Make sure your AlienFX Board is working properly" Unless I'm doing something wrong or there are other settings I'm supposed to change to get it to work.

well as most of you have seen my issues..

    I have bleeding (quite bad)
The auto contrast brightness/darkness is annoying.. want to turn that off if i can.
volume up and down have a mind of their own.. very rarely work...

Thats it, the rest has been awesome..
